Marv Fox Jr. is pinning down legal? Also what is legal for the defender as of contact, what contact is legal
@davidhall44014 жыл бұрын
@@amritdhaliwal4271 Pinning down is legal if you square your opposite shoulder up with your defender's side you're attacking; because when you tightly lock your shoulder with his, both of your bodies are very close to each other to a point where there is not enough room for you to over extend or elongate your off arm. In other words, if you don't outright push off then pinning down is legal. If you try to dribble around your defender and attempt the pin down move you're likely to get called for an offensive foul because his hips are still mobile enough to freely open up and slide back in front of you; and in order for you to prevent the defender from cutting off your drive, you have placed yourself in a situation where you will over extend your off arm because there is too much space between you and your defender. From this position you really have to go out of your way to make effective bodily contact with him, which would lead to pushing off.
@davidhall44014 жыл бұрын
If I am wrong or what I say does not make sense someone who understand s pinning down better than I please feel free to correct me. In the meantime I hope what i said helps.

This is amazing. What I can never understand was how to use my big body in getting past players. I have no speed at all. I'm 6'2" 220lbs with no athleticism but I have a wide body and pretty strong. I always wanted to learn how to be physical when driving to beat my defender and this has been my answer.

Been coaching for 20 yrs in my country. All levels. Coaching is a patchwork, and we all steal like from each other, which I'm all for Gonna steal this! :D blatantly, but as the guy says below; it's a goldmine. Great work, coach The phrase you were looking for is: you play "chess", and he be playing checkers, once you master this ;)

What if you don't have a partner? This is literally a treasure beneath a bunch of wacks. No fancy moves, just "veteran moves" (separates good to great). I've always been the athletic guy, but I can't utilize it because I avoid contact. I'll use this. Shoulder, arm, footwork, physical. Got it.

im kind of new to ball so i don't know what counts as any offensive fouls or whatever but is using your arm to push away a defender or a defenders arm away a foul in anyway? not like use my hand to push but like my forearm or tricep area. Pls reply thanks! Great vid btw
@danbrown13447 жыл бұрын
Don't extend the forearm too far and always try to use it on a defender who's moving his feet. It's hard for a ref to claim that the defender had legal guarding position if they were still in motion.
@dferdinand89986 жыл бұрын
This will not work if your defender is bigger or stronger. Great move , but I see this working only on a defender that's weaker then you. Its still an better option to shift your defender one direction and go the opposite direction.

5:30 is there any good way to defend push off?. There is many offense videos but I can’t find any good info on how to play defense against push off. I played against a guy who was very active with off hand and push offs. It was difficult to guard.

@simpmarvel7 жыл бұрын
Me Appear the move is bullet proof...it doesn't matter who the defender is...initiating contact...pinning the arm done and attacking the shoulder will work on all types of defenders if you master the technique....watch any pro guard and you'll see them use this technique....keep the questions coming and sorry for the late response

I don’t understand what he’s trying to mean at his first drill
@poodleswan68567 жыл бұрын
are you allowed to grab the defender's arm?
@danbrown13447 жыл бұрын
Most referees will allow it because once you get that close, you can argue that the locking of the arms is due to to you trying to swing your arms to gain speed but the defenders arm is there.
@poodleswan68567 жыл бұрын
it's not cheating if they don't call the foul right?
@danbrown13447 жыл бұрын
Nope. James Harden and multiple others do it all the time.
@poodleswan68567 жыл бұрын
alright thanks
@williamanderson10912 жыл бұрын
What happens when the defender is in a legal guarding position and the offensive makes or initiates contact. When the offensive player reaches and holds a defensive player's arm that is truly an offensive foul( player control).
@legacybasketball40202 жыл бұрын
remeber... youre not attacking the center of the body, you're attacking the shoulder and hips...attacking the hips and shoulder help you to avoid offensive fouls and the grab during the drill is only for drill purposes to help the offensive player become familiar with using thier off hand...in a game the grab is really just a quick swipe not a grab and hold...

wont you get called for a charge though?? im worried defenders might fall on their backs and you get called for a foul
@simpmarvel8 жыл бұрын
Attack the shoulder and your fine...either the defender will open up or the ref will have to call foul...watch guys like wade harden and cp3....they do this all the time..it's definitely a cheat move but everyone does it
@devvv46168 жыл бұрын
Marv Fox Jr. i tried this and its real easy to drive now haha, no moves needed, like a simple jab and i can go. one thing i noticed though is what if the defenders arms are almost to you chest/head level? do you still try to bring it down?? anyways thanks a lot for the answer
@Kunado8 жыл бұрын
+Marv Fox Jr. I still dont get what you mean by Attack the shoulder.
@devvv46168 жыл бұрын
try it man, most of the time they also open up so it doesn't really cause a charge. instead, its like a super straight/tight angle to the rim without no chance for the defender to get around. in my experience, it usually results to a contact layup so you have a chance of getting fouled while nullifying the shotblock cos they can't jump
@DshakE037 жыл бұрын

@simpmarvel5 жыл бұрын
Districtone_ swipe or pin down quickly...don’t grab...we grab in the video to train the off-hand to be active on the drive...plus in game time situations the action happens so quick you shouldn’t have time to really grab...makes sense....I’ll address this in my next video....
