5:20 Metra should've announced to those passengers at Lockport, IL that the train is running on a different track so instead of the engineer having to yell out the window, they couldve already been waiting on the proper platform. Great video btw!

This is one of the most underused metra lines due to how little it gets and it only runs on weekdays so therefore it gets less ridership than other metra lines and also because it has a short schedule each day so you barely get any trains on this line
@oct197.5 ай бұрын
Yep. This train I was on was during the fall excursion program on Saturdays between 9/9 and 10/14. It would have been nice if Metra kept this Saturday service, but I guess they would have to get permission from CN to operate more trains.

I always wanted to do this line many years ago. Just never had the time plus since this only runs on weekdays, I would have to pay a bunch of one way fares. Oh btw if you haven't already, you should do NCS #120.
@oct197.8 ай бұрын
I don't think NCS 120 exists on the alternate schedules. Have you tried a day pass on metra? only $10 and you can go anywhere on the system

Is that the same GMO line from back in the day where you see the Lincoln service in Texas eagle coming out of Chicago thru st louis? Do they share it with the heritage corridor? Sometimes I see freight trains out of Dwight but I don't know if they actually run freights coming down through Lemont and Lockport other than the BNSF just over the other side?
@oct197.7 ай бұрын
Yes it is the same GMO line. Amtrak mostly uses the heritage corridor followed by Metra and then UP. There are UP trains that run past Lemont and Lockport. I think they are all intermodal run throughs though.
@truckerkevthepaidtourist7 ай бұрын
@@oct197. Cool. I know you can go down right there off of route 6 159th Street there before you cross the canal out to Archer. but I didn't know if they ran freights up that line too Cuz the BNSF is just like steps away to about a half block the Transcon carry so much traffic before you go over the I and M canal high bridge.

Great video. Very informative. Interesting to see the new Amtrak cars. What is the "clang-clang' noise that starts up at low speed??? Is it the brake pipe re-charging or something else??
@oct197.8 ай бұрын
Thanks. Can you give timestamps where the clang clang is?
@paulperrottet1138 ай бұрын
I realise it probably is the loco bell, ringing.

It's the bell on the cab car, the loco is several hundred feet back. Cab cars are equipped with horn and bell since they lead inbound

@keegangidley2071Ай бұрын
it sounds like when the engineer goes full blast with the horn, the pneumatic bell either slows down or stops until he lets up on the horn. maybe taking too much air from the bell system for the horn? weird
@oct197.Ай бұрын
I think the bell and horn are different valves. The bell goes off when he sounds the horn.

Why is it running left handed? I thought only the routes on the former C&NW ran on the left side.

I wondered that too. We ran right handed for the other times I rode this inbound.
@captainjohn7878 ай бұрын
A map tracing the route, maybe a photo or two of the equipment would give this video more context. Presume a number of viewers are of the out-of-towners variety, unfamiliar with greater Chicago and the commuter service. Otherwise, nicely produced. Thanks for the post.
