Testing the functionality and performance of the MetraHit IM Xtra BT on my winding simulator. 2 and 4 wire winding resistance measurements followed by polarisation index measurement.
Results are captured with the Metralog software on a tablet and then analysed using Microsoft Excel.

Man if that could preform a surge test that would be great for testing cooling tower motors instead if lugging up a baker away 5 flights of stairs. Also is the 4 wire resistance measurement a EU testing requirement? Still surprised fluke hasn't made a portable IR and DLRO stand alone unit.

Whilst it seems to perform some sort of a surge test, it isn't returning the typical waveform, but provides a numerical time value for comparison across the phases. I haven't found 4-wire resistance mentioned in the IEC 60034 series for rotating machines. It is within the 60076 series for transformer winding measurements and 62271 for breaker testing. It was in the old IEEE 118 standard, but that was withdrawn in 2005, and I have not seen a replacement. I have only seen combined IR and DLRO units from Gossen and Megger, but the other manufacturers may produce some, although you are getting into more niche requirements. What size are the cooling tower motors? At the moment I have tested this unit on motors up to 1 MW and got readings okay. Appreciate you watching and commenting 👍👍
