Based on their redesign in *_Metro Exodus_* along with other mutants' redesigns making their origin species more easily identifiable, the Demon does indeed appear to be mutated from bats albeit quite heavily. Seriously, you have GOT to cover all the redesigns in a video at some point.

If they evolved naturally in the wasteland, I'd say they come from bats. Powered flight in vertebrates has only evolved three times and the three wing designs are all different, demon wings seem to he identical to those of bats. And the spare set of limbs could come from a mutation. It's much more likely that they come from bats than house cats, assuming they evolved naturally.

These things were the bane of my existence since I only used the bastard gun and the double barrel shotgun

Something I noticed about the demons is that one of their favorite attacks is picking an individual up and then dropping them from a large height. Certain birds are known to do this especially when they have food that has a hard shell they would pick it up carry it to a very high altitude and drop it from there to crack the shell open. Another thing I noticed is that demons seem to be incredibly territorial creatures... They seem to pick a fight with almost anything that encroaches upon them... That being said their not Beyond cooperation either... For example in Metro 2033 the first game when you first go to the surface with bourbon you are beset by several demons and instead of trying to fight each other over which one gets the meal they focus on trying to kill you first. To me it seems as if the demons are far more intelligent than their beastly appearance would suggest. Although I'm not suggesting their on par with the intelligence of a dark one or even a librarian they are still fiercely vicious creatures that have shown what I see to be an alarming amount of intelligence for a creature that's supposed to be just a giant bat demon. As for how the demon came about to me it seems the demon most likely had undergone some form of genetic mutation of an alarming amount that or genetic tampering.... In a universe where ghosts are a real thing Anything is Possible.

Honestly bats seem the most likely. It would be a much less drastic mutation from bat to demon than from house cat to demon, though theory 3 is also possible, I just don’t see the reason for it

Something you may have missed is a structure in the bird's chest called the Keel this is a very important component as to how birds are able to fly when generally the amount of mass that their chest is doubles the size of their winds certain animals such as the albatross and hummingbird have very unproportionate limbs to their weight when you take a look at the creatures chest you can see a very similar structure wrapping around the rib cage this is that muscle and cartilage structure known as the Kiel

My question about the origin of demons is about them having six limbs, wings, legs and arms. I don't know of any creature they could originate from that isn't a four limbed animal. I don't know if that was taken into consideration when designing the demon, but if it was I think it would point to government creation or it would require some extreme mutations which is possible in the metro universe.

I don't think we've had a good look of the Demon in the upcoming Exodus but judging by the figure we see it seems they look more gargoyle like.

I think the most likely answers are either they mutated from bats, or where a biological weapon made by the Russians like the Dark Ones. Then again I still operate by the head cannon that the Metro Series is set in the Fallout Universe during the resource wars.

All of these are good theories. I'd be inclined to lean toward the cat one for the reasons you pointed out (they have cat like features, the baby hisses, cats breed at a high rate, the roar) but I also really like cats lol.

Ooh have you heard of the SCP Foundation website? There's tons of monsters, objects, demons, plagues, and other unnatural phenomenons that are threats to humanity. And also check out the System Shock series it has one of the best AI villains and scariest types of monsters there's even a parasitic hivemind in the second game. Doom is also pretty cool as well.

Another good video man. Nice theories about their origin as well. Originally i was inclined to think they evolved from bats for a couple reasons. They already have flight as a mammal and to my knowledge not an easy achievement. Second with that much radiation i would imagine that bugs get bigger witch is what a lot of bats eat. There for as the bugs got bigger they would have to get bigger as well in order to survive. Thus from their bigger size hunting other creatures would much easier. Through hunting larger creatures the forward growth of arms makes sense to help hold down and kill their new found prey. Only part of it i don't get is why they would develop cat eyes. (I would rather have them evolve from bats so i can keep my little fuzzy buddies) :P Also you think you could cover the great pledge within the pre-fallout world you mentioned briefly in your fallout history video, i haven't heard of it before.

This seemed to be evolved bats the new fallout game fallout 76 also has a large bat like creature so the demon is definitely related to bat probably a being evolved from bats as bats have the wings as that can be seen in demons

This is a great video, and absolutely wild to see. I was the one who put forward the tiger theory on the wiki many years back, and you've definitely got some good counterarguments against it. I do have to point out that we see some pretty drastic changes in librarians, and if they are indeed humans the way you speculate then they come from a species with even longer generation times than tigers. I think housecats are a very solid possibility here. The roar and dentition was what really sold me on it being a tiger, but I could see a roar showing up in heavily mutated small cats.

I think they're evolved from kitties instead of bats. For starters while bats do, in fact, have pretty good eyesight, only fruit bats really use their eyesight to find food; most insectivorous and carnivorous bats hunt using echolocation. Since the demons use a roar instead of a screech, they would need larger-than-average ears to pinpoint more specific locations, and seeing as how they don't appear to have any pinna surrounding their ear canals, this would be virtually impossible. Second, the physiology of a cat would make it a much more suitable candidate for genetic mutations of this degree. Since cats have floating clavicles, it would be much easier for a third set of viable limbs to mutate, and since the mechanism of power for their flight appears to come primarily from the biceps/triceps of the wings and its obliques instead of the pectoral muscles, cats would be better suited for this kind of mutation over bats. In addition, the morphology of the spine appears more Feline than Chiroptera; a bat's vertebrae are thinner and more elongated than the plates that appear along the demon's back, and a bat's tail ends at the coccyx with an elongated tail bone, whereas a cat has an actual tail. Third, its hunting techniques. Unlike cats or bats, demons have forgone any notion of ambushing their prey, and instead go right for the kill. When a demon strikes, it grabs its prey with it's claws instead of its talons, and then proceeds to either drop it from a high point or slam it into something. Cats will similarly "play" with their prey before killing it, where as a bat will immediately gobble it up. If a bat couldn't immediately eat its perspective prey, it usually won't even attempt to grab it to begin with. What, you think I'm overthinking this too much? You think I have better things to do with my time? No you shut up!
