well i'm from Canada so it works different here, I got my computer technologist diploma in 3 years at Sheridan college (the harvard of computer animation in Canada). Cost around 8 grand a year, and I did co-op work placements in between lecture semesters which helped pay for most of the schooling as I was making a decent wage. All in all it wasn't hard, but I'm currently going to university for engineering as it is the most promising; this is because people are becoming more and more tech savvy.

Not always the case. My job has me going to different sites around town troubleshooting many types of issues. I get paid decently, I get good benefits, and I also get paid for expenses and mileage. I spend very little time in my office. Of which most of that time is ordering parts or communicating with other assets to get the problem solved. It really depends on what your IT job really is. If your Help Desk or a programmer then yeah you will have a lot of screen time.

You wouldn't know it in some places, they tend to try to separate them, placing one higher then another, or in another category. But you're right CS is apart of the IT industry, but some interviews I've been to think otherwise.

I agree. Sometimes I go on site and its the most simplest of solutions. I fix the issue and think "I can not believe I get paid for this". I think it comes down to your attitude and how you look at it. If your like the guy above then your not going to like any kind of support roll.

Self study and Real World scenarios.... Well, that's what I did back in 2000 and now, Life is like butter. I'd still be looking for a job and possibly in debt if I had went to a college for the education. But this was my life.. How you proceed with yours, is up to you.

Possibly. You're not exactly guaranteed any thing, but you do have *some* experience. I mean Im at uni, do a networking degree, and have a placement at a large multinational. You probably earn more than me, but I guess I'd have the experience for working for this company
@conman231712 жыл бұрын
continued: and as people become more and more tech savvy, the less reliant they become on IT professional help, also software is getting more efficient and easier to use as time progresses, there is little hope for you as a info. technologist, as all the future jobs will rely on engineering and programming specialists. Right now there is a big demand of IT Pro's, but it will die down fast!

I m thinking about getting IT Certs to get a decent job and get my foot in the door at least. Are these certs worth it? (MCTS), Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Server Administrator (MCITP:SA) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). My local community college offers these certs. I currently work at a call center and I feel like I can do more. Its a very dead end job. Are opportunities going to knock if I pursue these? The entire program is 855 hours long I think.

I think you're looking at it in the wrong light. Getting paid a decent amount of money to plug a mouse in for someone is probably the easiest job you're ever going to have. As long as people remain stupid, your job is going to be a peace of cake. Coasting all the way to retirement.

What a rubbish fluff video. IT is now driven by the business. Basically the business (non IT managers without a clue), now decide what is required and when. This is clear for a number of large companies I have now worked for in the last 20 years. If you are in operations 3rd level Server/network Engineer etc, and the higher you go , you just seem to spend more time doing rubbish jobs the lower levels couldn't be bothered figuring out and dump over. IT is VERY boring, don't be fooled lol
