This might be a bit unlikely, because the chozo covered the impact crater, the phazon was meant to be trapped, and the only reason it got out in metroid prime was because of, well, metroid prime. What's more likely is that there was some phazon that was outside the impact crater to begin with, which was what the pirates used, and then metroid prime absorbed that, went into the crater, and... you get the point

So here's why you're wrong. It's a nice theory but you told us that the PAL version is cannon since all MPT versions use the PAL entry so that the pirates officially did not know what hid in the crater. What makes me deny your offered solution is the fact that from the moment the pirates found the leviathan UNTIL SAMUS ARRIVAL they speak of a large creature they cannot identify. So that means the Metroid must have been Prime before the pirates arrived. So how do I solve this? You explained why it couldn't have been a metroid the Chozo created on Tallon to fight phazon or for any other reason but what if it was an actual Chozo Metroid just not Tallonian but of Zebesian origin. My theory is that the Chozo who came to Tallon IV have traveled to said planet using a metroid as powersource. In Samus Returns' flashback pictures we see that larva Metroids won't attack Chozo so they just set it free after landing on Tallon. When the meteor hit, the phazon inside attracted the Metroid that later became the Metroid Prime that was even later described by the pirates as large unknown creature. The obvious problems seem to be, 1. The age of the Metroid Because if it landed along with the Tallon Chozo that are long gone by the point where the pirates arrive it must have been ancient and 2. Why should the chozo have used it as power source if they were the most advanced species at the time Let me answer to that in the same order 1. Age doesn't really matter since we never heard anything about a metroid decaying plus the Metroids on SR388 seem to be doing just fine when Samus arrived. Which happened how many eons after the Chozo left the place? 2. They used a metroid to build a completely organic ship. See the Tallon Chozo wanted to leave technology behind. That's the whole reason they left Zebes in the first place. And what better way is there to disconnect from technology than building an organic ship. Now you say: prove it! Where's your evidence to which I respond with the following points: 1. If the Chozo arrived with a normal ship, where is it. You explore pretty much everything that's left of Chozo technology and never even come across something resembling a ship. My answer would be that it simply decayed. Either because the Chozo set the core piece, the Metroid later known as prime, free or it just wasn't immoral like the Metroid itself so maybe it fell apart around the Metroid instead of the Chozo setting it free. 2. I rest my case

Scans I fit are that Phazon was not present until the Metroid Prime crashes into the planet, slowly corrupting it. When you scan the actual creature, it will tell you that this is the source of phazon. So I’m not sure how that would work out. How would a metroid get into something that couldn’t have existed before the prime crashed into the planet?

One more interesting tidbit is that the Genesis Chamber on Phaaze contains multiple Metroid Prime exoskeletons, although they appear merely as lifeless husks. It implies that the Metroid Prime on Tallon IV is not the only one of its kind.

I think from what I can assume is that when they brought the Metroids to Phaaze, under Dark Samus's order, they too have started to become Phazon Metroid, and the more Phazon they've absorbed, then they've also are becoming their own versions of Metroid Primes. Although they are empty husks, their cores might've been wandering somewhere on Phaaze which we did not get to see. Well, never until the planet got destroyed.

It's likely that the husks either burrowed into the walls in order to get as much phazon as they can (before dying or molting), or they collapsed and began sinking into the ground/getting absorbed by the walls, since Phazon seems to be able to convert other materials into more Phazon.

I may have an explanation for this. In m prime 1 there is only one metroid prime in the phazon meteor because it may be like a survival of the fitiss story and the reason that there are husks in the meteor in prime 3 because there body's phazon energy was sucked out of them so that the metroid prime can get more powerful like an rpg

I always thought the cores were meant to die when the "guardians" were there long enough. in 3, the guardians are something from the planet, absorbing phazon directly from the leviathans I always thought metroid prime would have been before samus' lifetime, the chozo fighting the corruption certainly was, but for it to be a metroid means it wasn't there long as canonically all of prime is before samus returns (gameboy/3ds) so after samus defeats mother brain the pirates would have been looking for a new source of power straight away, they and the metroids would hardly be on tallon IV for 5 years, a while before samus turns up but not quite the lifespan for the leviathans I'm thinking of. if it's a metroid, then metroids kill leviathans

I never had an issue with the original Gamecube lore. The pirates said they found the metroid in one of their phazon mines. The captured it and experimented on it with phazon. Then it escaped and found it's way to the crater because it wanted more phazon. It doesnt seem unlikely that the metroid could have found it's way into the crater from underneath through a secret cave system. This would also explain the Metroid Prime's origin. It could have been an escaped specimen originally brought to Talon by the pirates that had wandered into the mines. I dont like the retcon as it created more plot holes that needed explanation.

Finally! I asked you to make this video a few times and I’m glad you did. Here is, in my opinion, the biggest unanswered question in regards to this theory. How do we explain the metroid prime ‘husks’ embedded and fossilized into the walls inside the seed chamber on planet phaaze? It is never directly stated or confirmed why they are there and if we are to assume they came from metroids brought to phaaze by metroid prime.. why are there so many fossilized into walls suggesting they have been there for a very long time? I think your theory is correct and is def the most popular one.. but this one detail has been bugging me for years. And I think it is why some believe the metroid prime came from phaaze itself which sort of makes sense too. It’s been a highly debated topic amongst the community for years. I just dont like explaining it away with ‘well the metroids must of mutated that fast because.. plot magic.. anyway, would love to hear your take on this. There are pictures of the scan logs from a google search if you need them. Thanks for making this video!

The husks on Phaaze are not necessarily "fossilized". Many skins shed by insects look dried and husk-like in a matter of minutes, and it seems Dark Samus found Phaaze quite a while before the events of Prime 3, giving an undetermined time period for lesser mutated Metroids to grow into Primes. As to why the husks are imbedded into walls, keep in mind that Phaaze is a living creature, and it is stated in the Leviathan infant scan that the planet "pushes" the Leviathans towards the surface out of the womb, meaning that there is lots of shifting and movement within the planet, and things like dried husks will undoubtedly be crushed/buried in the process. I hope Prime 4 doesn't try to explain the truth behind all this, because leaving things vague like they are allows for discussion such as these.

I always saw those husks as indicating Metroid Prime came from Phaaze, but I also found it weird that their would be a sort of Metroid travelling within a Leviathan, or even present on Phaaze at all (besides the ones the pirates brought there). Maybe before the Metroids turned on them, some of the Chozo from SR-388 left the planet with some Metroids and discovered Phaaze, resulting in some remaining there and mutating into Metroid Primes. It's a very confusing subject for sure, but besides the husks on Phaaze this theory does seem pretty solid. I love the idea that Dark Samus would've started out as just a regular Metroid.

That’s similar to what I thought had happened. I thought Metroid prime was like the “guardian” organism of the core. Since in Metroid prime 3, we see that the phazon cores in the seeds would have corrupted organisms from their designated planets to guard them, I was thinking that since the Metroid taken to the planet would become corrupted by phazon, once eventually becoming a phazon Metroid since it had escaped from the pirates, the core would then take the Metroid and have it be its guardian. But that’s where your point wins, because when we see that after we defeat Metroid prime, the meteor explodes, like as if we beat the core. But when you beat the guardian, the meteor doesn’t explode yet until the actual core is exposed and destroyed. So to say the the core and the Metroid had fused together into one big organism and the core taking complete control of it would definitely make more sense.

What I think is that the metroid was always with the chozos before impact, you see at Samus returns the chozo memories the last panel, the creators warn high comanders about the metroid threat and how they got out of control, but they kill the scientist and aparently go and get some specimens, they take some SR388 metroids to tallon 4, then then after the impact and before the temple is built, one of the metroids escapes and becomes the leviathan's guardian.

Probably "Metroid Prime" is just what the last stage of a Phazon Metroid's life cycle is, akin to an Omega or Queen Metroid with unmutated ones. Then the chozo kept looking for “sentient” planets and found SR-388 and used Metroids there as well in order to combat the lethal X-parasites. After the chozo left, the “sentient” planets, both Phaaze and SR-388 bred Metroids as their own. This is why we see so many Metroids in Phaaze, but not a lot of highly lethal creatures.

The reason metroid prime core pulls samus into it and rips off her suit is because the game was made in NA... meaning that until nintendo made their stupid announcement, and before the 2nd and third game made people think metroids react to phazon is the same predictable path each time, the NA based company inteaded for the NA logs to be cannon, where metroid prime was collecting armor and weapons to use as protective shell... this was the reason it switched between purple, white, yellow, and red lighting accents, because the pirates were reverse engineering samus's beam tech. Metroid prime was literally building the shell we break off of it later, during the game! It then turned arpund amd did the same to samus (she got the phazon suit during the story of prime 1). It was supposed to have a dual storyline, that showed this creature could do as it pleased with the barrier, while the pirates and samus were locked out. The xray visor being usable on prime core (the 2nd enemy its needed for after chozo GHOSTS) shows the player HOW prime got in and out of the barrier. In conclusion, screw nintendo's pfficial statement and the reprinted prime 1 game's (pal version) logs. We all know the real story.

i'll explain the weird death state of metroid prime. if you look at the unlockable concept art you see that the metroid prime is destabilizing. normally it feeds off phazon radiation to grow. but after you irradiate its brain you overload its systems and it begins to fission. its basically over evolving because you fried its genetics. one shreiking face becomes two and the four... until the destabilization causes it to devide unevenly. it continues each new copy more malformed than the last and more incomplete. until its degenerated into a ball of highly unstable phazon which at this point begins to expand as the metroid shreiks in excruciating agony. that ball was not the phazon core but the metroid prime's dying brain. which was being ripped apart by its expanding shell of phazon, kind of like how a red giant star dies. finally it tears itself open and ruptures blasting the crater into smithereens with the force of its agonized death throes. basically it felt all of the pain it had inflicted on the chozo. but it contained enough of its brain in your suit to live on as dark samus.

This is a popular, common fan theory. It's pretty much just a consensus at this point, rather than being discussed or debated. No one really thinks about it or even questions it, or even pays much mind to the holes in it. People just accept it, despite not making any more sense than the original story. The problem with the theory that Metroid Prime was just a lone metroid that the space pirates brought along is, how in the hell did one metroid out of a countless amount just get lucky enough to be the single one that mutated into prime. If in the short time the pirates were on Tallon IV, it managed to evolve so quickly, why haven't we seen more of them in the impact crator? It's one hell of a coincidence that an infant metroid, a single one out of all the others they experimented on, not only managed to escape, but slipped past the barrier, when not a single weapon could penetrate it. It doesn't make sense that there weren't other metroids, under the same condition, with the same sort of ability. Logic dictates there should at least be a few in infant stages, or adolescence, or even older. One might be able to argue it's because Prime qualifies as an apex predator, but in nature, there are usually more than one of them, even if in small numbers. But we've seen no evidence of any other metroids on Tallon IV with this ability. So what gives? What made this one experiment out of the countless ones the pirates conducted, so special? There needs to be a reason for this one exception, other than "lul, he just got lucky I guess". I would posit that there is a certain trait to this metroid that would make it special. Something it possesses naturally to be especially potent, and to evolve so much more quickly than the others. This is the firsf Metroid in all of the franchise, that possesses sentience. That is no small mutation, intelligent life randomly coming about, even from phazon, is extremely rare. Almost unheard of. In addition to scans mentioning it's the source of phazon, DS calls Phaaze her homeworld, she's the one metroid that managed to not only gain super intelligence, but also manifested a power suit out of non-organic material. I don't think Tallon Metroids could just commonly evolve into this form after a short few years, even under the conditions of phazon. At most we saw weak fission and hunter types. Prime is in a class entirely of its own, arguably a species of its own. No other metroid in history, even with phazon, on Aether, Tallon, Elysia, SR388, etc. reached this mutation. It is reasonable to assume it comes from another world, it has natural traits which can mutate at an accelerated rate, into essentially a super intelligent bioweapon. Where else can you find a metroid with these traits? Phaaze. The only planet with husks from metroid primes. Not even Dark Aether was suitable for creating this being. We've seen no other evidence of primes besides Phaaze and the one on Tallon IV. Only Phaaze could produce something so alien, so destructive, so evil. I don't think metroids are particularly unique of a creature either. We've seen evidence of alternate species of metroids. Quadtroids in Hunters for example. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Chozo may have even based the design of this bioweapon on a neighboring species from other planets. An interstellar hyper intelligent race of beings who can transcend space and time could easily replicate metroids from existing species. Prime being alien to Tallon IV is much more conceiveable than some rando infant metroid that just slipped past the barrier like "gg, ez". We have plenty of evidence of metroids inhabiting Phaaze, and no evidence of pirate activity years before DS even went back there. No remnants of their presence. The planet is still 100% organic. The pirates and maybe even metroids would die of phazon exposure long before evolution takes fold. tl;dr Prime is an alien, it hitched a ride on the leviathan, metroids have distant relatives on other planets.

Pirates bringing metroids also doesn't explain why the ones on Phaaze have the ability to phase through matter, while the ones in Tallon IV lacked this trait. I still say Metroid Prime is just part of a species all its own. It wouldn't surprise me if other ones made it to distant planets.

In addition, it makes no sense that the worm is not Metroid Prime. Chozo make no mention of rogue metroids slipping in and out of the impact site. It can be reasonably assumed that the worm in question is Metroid Prime. The main threat in this series. There's no significance greater in this franchise. The devs obviously aren't going to talk about some secondary villain in any more detail. The source of phazon was described as Metroid Prime, the source is the worm. Nintendo retconning this just makes no sense. So the worm is just some random phazon and leviathan, and metroid is just chilling on the sidelines, when the game is called METROID PRIME. It was originally designed to be the source of phazon, and the main threat of the games. Narratively, it's pointless for the lore to even mention the worm if it isn't the creature in question.

I never used to get why the metroid prime died the way it did… until I found some concept art. It’s not just detonating. It’s mutating at such a rate the it’s dna is falling apart. When Samus irradiated its brain it was so overloaded with radiation that even the creature was overwhelmed. It started to fission like a fission metroid. But it could not stop the mutation. It keeps dividing over and over becoming a mass of copies. Until it fissions unevenly. Resulting in less and less perfect copies. At this point it’s just degenerating. The shrieking faces of the metroid degenerate into blue formless phazon which then starts to detonate. The exterior of the creature starts to rapidly expand ripping the brain apart with it as the creature shrieks in excruciating agony. Until finally it ruptures and dies but not before storing some of its brains in Samus’s phazon suit. Which would lead to dark Samus being created…

Many issues: 1. How is a metroid supposed to get in and out of the shield the Chozo created if Pirates can't. 2. Why didn't they enter the crater after it did. 3. If it's space pirate technology Prime uses, how come they didn't say anything about stolen tech, fights against giant crabs or massive Phazon leaks. 4. If Prime was a Tallon Metroid, how come the metroids in the Phazon mines haven't even gone hopper yet. 5. Who said that the Chozo didn't bring the Metroid to fight X? Maybe they brought it when they arrived. As a precaution. As a sample to clone more if they DID encounter X on other Worlds? Counter Theory: The Chozo that arrived on Tallon had a "safety metroid" with them which they put in a weapons lab which was likely later destroyed by the leviathan. The Chozo would then start hiding the remaining weapons for Samus arrival and lock up the crater which they knew had a bunch of dangerous weapons, radioactive rage jelly and a metroid inside of it. The metroid merged with the Chozotech-phazon-soup and became prime. When the pirates arrived all the Chozo where either dead or gone, their own attempts at making powers suits just by what they witnessed failed miserably so they studied the big f-ing bug in the laser shield and came up with their beam suits.

The Cradle predates the existence of Metroids by about 35 years. The Leviathan hit about 30 years before Samus was born, and Samus was about 5 when the Metroids were created Phazon Metroids gain the ability to phase through matter, so how a Metroid could get through but not the Pirates isn't too odd.

@@BroadwayRonMexico What if the SR388 Metroids were not the first ones to exist? Maybe Chozos from Tallon IV created some before them? Or was it mentioned in the game lore that all the Metroids on Tallon IV originate from SR388 or Zebes (I don't remember)? But it seems the "Phazon Metroid phasing through the barrier" -theory makes the most sense. And for why the other Metroids on Tallon IV won't evolve to Phazon/Jumper Metroids is probably because of the quality of most of the Phazon in Tallon IV is not the "correct quality" or it could be just a genetical mutation coincidence. Overall I'm pretty sure its just plot holes the makers of the game didn't really think about during the making of Prime 1 and then retconned stuff in the later games.

It would make a ton of sense. It explains why Metroid prime is trying to make more of herself, knowing that after the events of Fusion Samus nearly wiped them out (keep in mind X parasites steal memories too). It also explains how she was able to infect and mind control the entire space pirate home world, or how for some reason Metroid prime and her spawn (the fission metroids) are nearly so advanced that most can resist ice. X cells were extremely smart, what better creature to mimic than the matron of their sole predator, plus all the attributes they could bring to it (immunity to ice, fission, and late on in phaaze metroids the same teleportation). I don’t know why no one ever notices this.

Like notice how the metroids biologically changed from mp2 -> mp3. They somehow gained attributes of the ing (phasing like the ing hunters, inter dimensional travel) and then made a nod with the phazelits (which are phazon inglets). Dark samus even mind controlled the ing? What else could do that but an x parasite? Including mind controlling their leader the emperor ing? This ain’t no Metroid
@Strakester

Metroid Prime being an X is a well established theory. Since the game basically released parallel to Metroid Fusion (hence the fusion suit), the first thing that people noticed was that it turned into what appeared to be a core-x in the final cutscene. Plus, the obvious parallel between Dark Samus and SA-X. Nowadays I just assume that there were meant to be more parallels and connections between the two games from early in development, and things just didn't pan out the way they might have intended, leaving the Core-X thing a meaningless relic of earlier design ideas.

@@Strakester exactly. When I was real young I used to wonder if prime was meant to retcon fusion as a reboot of sorts, because the X-parasite never gets mentioned since then (though official timeline showed that it isnt) and teenager me used to think phazon was supposed to be puddles of x-cells 😂

Mmmm I don't know, Metroids in Tallon IV are called Tallon Metroids, clearly a distinct types from the SR388 Metroids, I always thought that the Chozo there for whatever reason had Metroids, maybe they were aiding the SR388 chozo in they creation and kept some. That way the Metroid Prime could be a normal Tallon Metroid which became the Guardian of the seed there.
@BroadwayRonMexico

Tallon Metroids are just mutated from the ones that the Pirates had on Zebes (who were already experimented on and changed a bit from the SR388 ones due to beta radiation the pirates tested on them) Dread makes more of the lore about Metroids clear and makes it very unlikely they were made by Tallon Chozo first.

Very interesting train of thoughts. I agree with most, tho I disagree with the idea that Dark Samus brought Metroids to Phaaze to create more of her kind. Quite the opposite seems likely, given the dead husks of smaller Metroid Primes around the walls of the Genesis Chamber on Phaaze. It seems like Dark Samus intentionally killed them before they grew big and may become challengers to her dominance on the planet. Just speculation tho.

It spawns Metroids, and the Hopping Metroids on Phaaze look to be to Metroid Prime what Alpha Metroids are to Queen/Omega Metroids.
