Su was 16 here, I wasn't doing anything in High School and here Su is owning the stage. Always impresses me. There is an Akatsuki Unfinished which is an acoustic version, and it's really cool. Here, Su is a warrior fighting for her love, and in Unfinished, she is heart broken. A completely different interpretation of emotions from the same song. Sugoi.

This song is a love song, if you hadn't figured that out. When she holds out her little finger that signifies how some Japanese believe that people fated to be lovers are connected by an ethereal red thread tied around their little fingers from birth, the pinky also connects to the heart, anyway not hugely important but she will do that each time she sings this song. Also the cape is a prop for this song just as the hedoban mic stand is always used when they perform headbanger, underneath that she is wearing her normal BM dress (this was the same show as the Rondo of Nightmare performance you saw)

@@Jordan-Ramses The English may seem cheesy, but the original "Akatsuki" lyrics contain references to classical Japanese literature and are fairly "literary". It's the case not only with Babymetal, but an aspect of Japanese bands underappreciated in the West is the literary allusions their song lyrics often contain. These don't translate well or at all.

This is still one of my favorite Su solos ever. Like a lot of BM songs, there's another variant of this song, the "Unfinished" version. Basically the tone is as if the lights never changed from blue to red and stayed in that soft feel.

⚡ / 🔴 🌙 According to BABYMETAL lore, Su is the "Crimson Knightess" when she's wearing the cape. The costumes for these 2014 Budokan concerts were used for only those two shows, and they were different each night. The top skirts were heavier than usual, and the underskirts were made of a poofier, tulle like material. Because of BABYMETAL logic, the top skirts were black for Red Night and red for Black Night. Su also added a poofy red feather shoulder decoration for the second concert (Black Night). I'm assuming that was a battlefield promotion. : )

Talking about the outfit, This concert was a two-day concert, a Black Night and a Red Night. They wore different costumes the two nights to differentiate the two nights. Su had a solo-slot each night. Rondo of Nightmare was sung on one night and Akatsuki was on the other. If you go to the Rondo video, you'll notice the costume differences between this night and that night. Red Night the outfit was mostly black with red trim. Black Night was the more traditional black top, red skirt. The cape is a prop used for Akatsuki primarily, so she can dance like a vampire lol.

Akatsuki is still my favourite song, perfectly tailored around SU, great lyrics and great interpretation, she's so intense here, especially toward the end, when she pushes so hard on her voice, she has a natural vibrato, she's emotionally tearing the crowd apart, outstanding. You don't need to scream to show your pain and desperation, when you have such a great voice. 🤘🦊⚡

Nyango Star did a drum cover of Akatsuki. They wore the normal mascot costume but with the addition of the red and black cape and the hair hanging down the side of the face. So it was a person dressed up like a mascot cosplaying as Su doing an awesome drum cover.

Nice reaction. Their costumes change up a little bit in every show. Early on the red tutus plus what looked like armour tops one show might be dragon scales the next, then there might be some black mixed with the red and Su might have a feather decoration on one shoulder and there would be a bit more black and less red as they grew a little older and so on. All Su's solos are great, including the covers she did for birthday specials. I think somebody else has mentioned the 'unfinished' (acoustic - just Su and piano) version of Akatsuki she did at Legend 1997 ... it gives the whole song a very different feel.

To give you another little fun fact about the song: it's a "tribute" to X Japan's song Kurenai. Kurenai means "Crimson" 紅, Akatsuki means "Crimson Moon" 紅月. Su always shouts "Akatsuki da" at the beginning of the song, X Japan's singer Toshi always shouts "Kurenai da" at the beginning of their song. Sometimes Su even runs across the stage after the shout, which is something Toshi always does (or did). It also shares some of the song structure, like the quiet (piano) beginning for example. You should definitely give the X Japan song a listen, it's an epic performance. Kurenai live at The Last Live, Dec 31st, 1997 in the Tokyo Dome, in front of 60k fans kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bqeidNGJsciqk58.html Another BABYMETAL song that is "modeled" after an X Japan song is No Rain No Rainbow. X Japan's counterpart is Endless Rain. Two very powerful and emotional ballads.

Ok I got a couple of things here.. It's definitely the cape. Talk about a teenager who knows she has the crowd eating from the palm of her hand. Very rare to have such commanding stage presence by a teen performer. Su's vocals are flawless on this tough to sing song. She nails it. If you want to see THE most emotional performance of all of Babymetal, then check out the "unfinished version" of Akatsuki. It's night and day from this performance and mind blowing. Kami Band slays always but the guitars in this one are so good. Another really good Black Babymetal is Onedari Daisakusen. Rough translation is "operation ask dad". You know, when mom says "no" daughters will generally go act all sweet and cute and ask dad. It's super kawaii. Really like you guys digging into Babymetal, thank you! Love this band!

baby metal's first song that I know ...akatsuki ... I found baby metal from this akatsuki song ... which, along with the explosion of the Naruto Uzumaki episode, faced a horde of rebellious ninja Akatsuki😎 .. especially the robe worn by Su metal reminded him of the special robe worn by the gang😍 After this song ... I searched for baby metal songs ... and I ended up poisoned by baby metal😍😍😍😍

Sometimes I wonder why this song is not taking the very top spot of my personal ranking (although it‘s quite far up), because I consider it to be absolutely flawless. It has so many different elements, and all of them are perfect. The slow and emotional sections, the fast and heavy sections, the duelling solos, Su‘s vocals and stage presence, the relentless pace of the drum beat, the little bass coloration after the interlude... I can’t think of anything that could be improved in any way.

Ok, the wording of this might be weird, so my apologies. I get why they put the masks on them now that they have the "Kami's West" thing, but it's just SO DUMB!!! I don't know who made that decision overall, but I feel like they think the fans are either 1) dumb, or 2) going to the shows for the Kami's. Don't get me wrong, they are absolutely a solid reason to go to the shows, but the point of the shows are the girls and their singing ability...again, the band absolutely helps make the songs what they are, but I think you get my point there. It just feels like our intelligence is being insulted in some way with the masks. Like I can't look at a dude's arm and see a ton of hair and tattoos and NOT realize it isn't one of the original Kami's?? Come on. Just let them play without the masks and let people enjoy the entire spectacle of the show. Oh, AND maybe have the two bands switch out like the Avengers do so the fans in the West will have a chance to see the originals. (I know they have in the past, but I mean newer fans or those who haven't had a chance to go to a show yet)

@@mr.osclasses5054 I wholeheartedly agree with you. A lot of stuff they do "for lore" is just super unnecessary. First putting the Kamis way in the back of the shows in 2019 (which is fortunately not the case anymore) and then even masking them for whatever reason. The unnamed Avengers "sent by the fox god", who can't even be named in interviews, even though everyone knows who they are. I mean, I can understand the reason they didn't get mics, Su & Moa are a duo now and the third one on stage is support only, but I really hope they change that next year if the Avenger concept stays the same or Momoko becomes the only Avenger. It's really a bit like they think we are all fools or kids, like you said... and everything for the lore probably. I think a good comparison for the whole situation are the new interviews. It's not really about BABYMETAL/not their fault, more like about tv in general, but I'm taking the example because I think it's basically the same thing as the stuff they do for lore. First they dance so close together, you can't get a hand between them and 2 min later they need to sit so far apart you almost can't get them in the same shot together. I know it's their regulations (in Japan), it's what we should all do in our current situation and I'm a big advocate for it, but I always feel like these tv stations want to take me for an idiot or an elementary schooler, because it doesn't make any sense to me why two people who are together probably 4 or more days a week can't sit next to each other, especially when they just performed in close proximity together.

Another great Babymetal reaction from you two! The only addition to Su's Battle Dress/Battle Armour (as the performance outfits are known) is the cape which, as far as I'm aware, is only worn for this song. The costumes/outfits have matured with the girls. Starting with a school uniform look, to the cute "warrior" girl tutu look, followed a more grown up "warrior" look with a skirt/armor top, to now their more "Warrior" woman look that I like best. This performance is when all 3 will still together. Do all the Black Babymetal videos please, love watching them even thought I get a little sad.

LVT is probably right about the outfit. I couldn't tell you what is different (or even for sure if she's right) but they're always tinkering with the outfits and this being part of a two-night special performance, I'd be surprised if there wasn't something a little different about it (on top of the cape). Aside from the cape, the costumes for the Budokan concerts were only used for those two shows. The top skirts were black, with red underskirts on Red Night. For the Black Night, the top skirts were red, with black underskirts. Su also added a shoulder decoration for the second concert (Black Night).

Probably the chainmail reflecting the red inside of the cape makes it look like its blood stained after a battle and looks different, as Su-Metal is known as Crimson Knight during this song.

Song name is pronounced more like 'ah-ka-tsu-ki/kay' (she shouts it out at the start of the fast part.) You can never go too wrong when trying to pronounce Japanese words by breaking them up in the most syllables possible (example --- "make" is not pronounced how we would do so in English, it would be broken down into 'ma' and ' ke' ...or something like 'maw-kay'. Enjoy your Japanese experience, there's a whole lot more out there from Japan (and Asia in general) that we in the West are missing out on if we don't go looking!

Hi there, loved your reaction, as always. I can't boost this up your list as I'm not doing Patreon et al. (sorry!), but if you're interested in more earlier Su-metal stuff, you should check out some Sakura Gakuin videos (like 'My Graduation Toss'), or a special gem I only recently discovered: 10 year old Suzuka in her previous project Karen Girl's, 'Over the Future', an actual anime intro song, and here Su-chan is the cute one out of three girls: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr94mr1e1NKsYXk.html This is a 30 minute video that has the MV, promotional interviews, live performances, and also the Babymetal live rendition of this song all in one. You will have do without subtitles / translations, though. I don't think we'll get one, if you read the new(er) interviews. Moa feels uncomfortable in the spotlight as the "frontwoman", she wants to support Su (if we can believe the interviews at least). I think it's ok if we don't get Moa songs, but she should definitely get more lines and more harmonies together with Su. Maybe even sing The One together or alternate between them from verse to verse, that would be amazing.

@@ANDOR- Yeah I've seen that as well, just seems a shame since Black Babymetal is no more to not have even Moa soloing GJ! or something like she briefly did when Yui was first gone. Seems like a waste, especially after seeing how she's grown with "Moabanger" for her 20th, to not feature her voice more in more songs.

@@kebobs3727 Definitely agree, they should feature her in more songs, I just don't think there'll be any "Moa solos". I'd be content with her doing more real singing in normal songs. My The One idea was simply because there's no real choreo, so she could concentrate solely on singing. Knowing the Japanese music business a little, that's going to be the only time she has a real chance to sing, because performance will always be the most important part of the show. We'll see what the future brings. Maybe we'll see a new song on the Rock-May-Kan show, it's almost time for "let's debut a song without a name yet 12 - 15 months before a new album" again ;)
