Mexico City is one of the most populous cities in the world but it can struggle to provide its inhabitants with a stable water supply. On the other hand, it also notoriously prone to flooding as water that would have filled natural wetlands is now forced over the vast urban sprawl. This film - originally broadcast in 2018 - investigates Mexico City’s troubled relationship with water.

It’s time to coexist with the water by living on artificial islands on top of the lake but more modern.

I really hope Mexicans really start to make serious efforts towards transforming our beautiful motherland so it can reach its full potential. Can you imagine a large metropolitan city that coexists with its natural landscape instead of trying to oppress its true nature? El DF could be so beautiful. I really hope it happens in my lifetime.

wow truly a amazing and informative video about something soo important, also the architect that wants to somehow transform the city to it's original form, just the idea is magnificent but if only that is possible it would truly be one of the biggest masterpieces in human history let alone just Mexico, it would be one of the most beautifulest city's in the world as it was in ancient times, I mean Venice would be nothing compared to Tenochtitlan, it was a city actual made up of floating gardens made by indigenous architecture.

@@cuauhtemotzin280 with a mindset like that im sure people would figured out a way to muck it up with or without outside help. people these days always pointing the finger at someone else but do nothing to solve the problem. this video gives multiple solutions but there seems to be a lack of interest in the project.. want change get involved. im sure the girl harvesting rain water thought the same way but instead of crying and blaming people from 700 years ago she came up with a plan. your not wrong but man you got a bad attitude. your not alone its 2021 most of us think like this and thats why we are the worst generation of men to walk on this planet imo. it doesn't matter whos fault it is what matters is whats going to be done about it to fix it.

First off, we have to realize that México City it's already overpopulated..we have to create awareness that it's time to descentralize many industries out of this metropoli...an option might be building an adjacent city where to move all these companies or business...take Brasilia in Brazil as an example..a model to follow up...then it will be plenty of water for the ones that decide to stay....🤔

I'd like to see a video on how the local bottled water companies which sell bottled water to most citizens. Simply fill the empty bottles from tap water. I live two houses from such a supposed bottled water provider. And becasue he speaks a bit of English often visit him. And during such visits, have personally wtinessed him filling collected empty bottle from clients and refilling them with his gathered water from his tinaca. He sells hundreds every week, and profess's to his clients that he utilizes an filter system the same as I have which cost me due to my wife and my usage of water for showering and laundry alone some 5,000 (1,000 U.S) a year. But in none of my visits have I ever seen a filter system at all. Just a hose from a tap. Though there are many exploiting the bottled water here by doing the same. He doesn't even bother to put seals on them as the other due, which though it doesn't mean anything, gives credence to some of the distributors when competing for clients.

the mayor needs an interim plan the people can't wait 6 years for water they need water now the mayor should determine which areas have the least access to water and purchase the largest air to water generators which can make 5 thousand gallons of water a day and place several of those throughout the city until she has found a permanent source of water if she can't get water from the rivers then she can begin building water desalination plants

Anybody about buoys and the principal behind them/The city is flood on top of water, I already have familiarity with digging tunnels ridiculously long and crazy big projects/dig down all the way down to where the water is that the city is floating on and put durable gigantic floating things in there, lining the circumference of the city underneath. how much Material can you pump Into the water underground? Can you fill up that gap in the space With the city is on top of it(let’s play fill in the gap)

New “documentary”, old information. There is a system in place since the 70’s to deal with water. Mexico City sees a lot of rain water which is capture and treated. There are time when water gets cut off due to system maintenance.

Alberto Kalach's idea is totally feasible and the right thing to do, this would probably benefit the city in many ways and avoid a total collapse. Imagine how unique CDMX would become, outside of the historical and architectural beauty it already has, it would be like Venice but actually bigger, modern, self sustaining. I picture Amsterdam Avenue from Condesa but times 50000000 and with many canals. Holy! It would be an investment as tourism would increase, the world would want to see and learn from CDMX I wonder if any Mexican can give us an update whether any of his ideas have been heard and followed by politicians?
