Did you end up taking your P4? I'm heading down to Cancun in a few days but I'm concerned about airport security. Any insight?

Yes I did, just came back last Saturday. I went with my P4. From JFK, TSA opened the case just because of the battery, no big deal. From Cancun Airport going back to US they opened the case too, asked too many questions, I was worried but kept my calm and showed them the printout copy of my FAA registration number (I also wrote the number to my drone). They matched it and asked for my passport to verify my name. They probably figured that they can't do anything to delay me, and let me go. I suggest you do the same.

You do need permission to fly over certain areas in Tulum. We did not have any trouble with TSA or customs but as a note you should not be checking any batteries at all. All lithium ion battery should be carried on with you for safety reasons.

Fleitgeist, sorry I'm a little late to the party but found your video when I looked specifically for drone vids riviera maya because we are going in March. Any flight/airport and Mexican permissions information you can provide is much appreciated!

Yes, there are many restrictions! We had to use local contacts to get in touch with local airports, heliports, and military bases before flying in many of these places.
