Our overland trip becomes a Mexico surf trip as we travel up the coast from Oaxaca to Sinaloa. We go to Barra del la Cruz, Rio Nexpa, and a couple lesser known surf spots along the way. Plus, so much good food!

I left mexico 35 years ago, the last place I lived was in Caleta De Campo near Rio Nexpa. We fished and went crabbing along the mouth of Rio Nexpa quite often . 34 years ago that place was nowhere on the map, I remember going there many times and ours were the only foot prints on the beach. My dad was a mason and was contracted to build a block home for a local man close to the mouth of Rio Nexpa. I wonder if it is still there? I remember he was just starting to build the palm leaf cabanas. Thank you for taking back to my child hood, I was overcome with nostalgia. I have been to mexico several times mainly to the place where I was born, Colima Mexico. I hope one day a can make it back, that drive along the Michoacan coast was impressive to me as a 6 year old.

Michoacan is one of my favorite coastal drives on mainland Mexico for sure. How great that you got to experience it back then. Im sure its changed a lot, but its still beautiful.

@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal I'm sure a lot has changed. A lot has changed at the place were I was born. So much of the environment has been consumed by agriculture. I was sadly disappointed on my first visit back. The thriving year round rivers were we fished are now dry river beds during the summer months. I'm almost scared to visit Rio Nexpa.

I have 26ft class c RV in Toronto Canada and u have made me realize that one does not need that much to travel and have EPIC adventures. I just have SO much respect for the way u do it. Chiringuito is the place to camp in San Blas (Aticama end of the beach). As you head up into the hills past Aticama there's a littlle palapa selling food on the side of the road with a great view of the ocean. Probably the best arachera I've ever had was there. Their menu is limited to what they have on hand on any given day so ymmv. Second time we were there we got ceviche and it was made with canned tuna. I've never been to Zicatela in Puerto Escondido and not seen big waves. Some decent surfing to be had at Playa Bruja in Mazatlan as well as some beaches North of Mazatlan. Thank you guys for continuing to inspire me to travel further into Mexico and Central America. You are part of the inspiration that got my wife and I travelling around mexico towing our little camper for 3 1/2 months this winter.

Hi guys! We stumbled upon your channel while looking for videos for camping in Costa Rica (our fave place too Matt). And just wanted to share how much we are loving your channel and videos! We are in Santa Cruz, CA so we have been stuck indoors cause of the unhealthy air and fires but that meant we got a chance to binge watch your adventures! We have been dreaming of taking the Pan American Highway trip with our rig (a Ranger with a Four Wheel Camper) and feel so inspired and excited to start planning (although probably wont happen for a couple years). Thank you for all your time putting this together! Excited to continue following your adventures!

I got pulled over by those same two pinche chavos. Good for you for standing your ground. I had two people with me that had to travel on that day so I paid them their maldita mordida. I've been pulled a number of times in Mex only time I had to pay. Those guys are punks they're just looking for blancos. Anyway, cool videos good job on not naming ALL the surf spots. Def caught that lesser known break aderezo really fun a couple of times.

That was one of my favorite beaches on the entire trip. We got it a bit bigger on our way south. Fun waves, light crowds and killer beachfront camping in the trees 👍. We managed not to pay any bribes during our entire 18 month trip. I definitely try not to encourage that behavior from the cops, but they've got me a couple times on Baja trips when I just need to get back across the border so I can get home, get a few hours of sleep, and get to work the next day 😅

Awesome video. I’m so curious about traveling with your pup. Where does he stay when you guys can’t bring him along, like on the boat ride and out to eat at restaurants?

It depends on the situation. We will leave him on his bed in the truck or leashed up outside of the truck when it seems OK, but when we do longer excursions, like white water rafting in Costa Rica we got him a hotel room with AC to make sure he was safe a comfy

@@twatts1523 Yea. Shade is crucial. we also have a slightly insulated windshield-shade-thingy that we always put up when going into the grocery store or anything like that.

We went through this routine several times on our trip. Always friendly but insistent on doing things the legal way and never did get a ticket or pay a bribe. Just lucky I guess

@@b-b8704 It can be pretty brutal when trying to sleep. The wind often stops at night and your just cooking in the humid, hot air. Definitely think about how you can keep ventilation going even in heavy rains. We used caulking to create a seal when we mounted our awning to the camper, so we could keep the window on that side open when it was raining and we had a Fantastic fan that blew air in through the window. oh, and obviously need window screens that will keep the noseeums and mosquitos out.

Mexico is nowhere near as dangerous as most people think, from all the things most people say could happen to you if you travel to Mexico, cops asking for bribes is the only one that commonly happens sadly, but any other types of things thay say just don't happen 99.9999% of the time.

If you go to Mexico you will probably have a great time, meet cool people, and eat amazing food with out getting beheaded at all. 👍
