Pero en la actualidad y desde el 2000 para aca, Estados Unidos ha dominado a Mexico ganando 19 partido contra ellos, empatando 8 y perdiendo solo 9. Ahora que Estados Unidos esta creciendo en el futbol, sera muy dificil para que Mexico los vuelva a superar.

The greatest coaching move was putting Cobi Jones in. Mexicans hated him intensely and having him on the pitch only intensified their frustration. They’d rather get a red card than claw back in the match. They fell apart psychologically when he came on.

Márquez se equivoca en todo para este partido, primero como capitán veterano, cómo es posible que no fue a hacerle una fiesta al árbitro por la mano dentro del área 2:26 que todo el estadio vió y Márquez estaba a 2 metros de distancia, aquí es donde hay que llenar el brazalete de capitán y ganarse una amarilla por reclamar si tú quieres, ahí era ese momento de sacar ese liderazgo del central titular del Barcelona y capitán de la selección, no una roja de manera cobarde contra Cobi Jones 3:28. Pero antes de eso, el segundo gol es completamente su responsabilidad, es el último hombre en un contragolpe 3 contra 3 porque Torrado quedó eliminado por detrás de Donovan, es un mano a mano contra Donovan que Márquez lo está viendo cómo inicia la carrera 3:00 pero simplemente se confía, jamás intenta espejear a Donovan que le gana la espalda de manera inocente, en qué estaba pensando. Ese día Márquez, el segundo mejor jugador que ha tenido México (después de Hugo), dio el peor partido de su carrera, por tratarse de USA en una copa mundial, y claro el inicio del mítico dos a cero. Ese día definitivamente nos jugó en contra.
