Steve Ditko, the original designer, plotter, and overall co creator of Spider-Man. The promotional pictures for this figure are based on pin up art by Ditko from ASM Annual 1 and 2.

@@asan1772nope, ditko was a notorious randian he could’ve never solely created Spider-Man on his own. Stan Lee had a huge influence on it. Ditko wouldn’t have been caught dead creating a character like Peter Parker and Spider-Man, if you want an example of Ditko’s characters then look no further than Mr. A.

This Mezco fig is done in Ditko's style: Ditkos Spidey is younger, slimmer, shorter and more Awkard looking than Romita Sr's. The costume is also a dead giveaway. The trimming on the red parts are smaller, making the blue parts more prounouced. And of course, the eyes. They are thinner and slanted. Also, his Peter Parker is Dorkier and has his hair completely slicked back. Romita was on record in saying that he wanted Spidey to look more contemporary and attractive . His Spidey is taller and more muscular. The colors are brighter. Especially in the blue section. His eye design is still small but catlike. The red trimmings take a larger amount of space around the shoulders, forearms and boots. This version is known as classic Spiderman. The biggest difference is in Romita's Peter design. He's more confident, better posture, dresses cooler, his hair is slicked back but has a distinctive loose bang for a more rugged effect. Mezco is only missing Ditkos web wings, but that's definetly the first Spiderman.

Was Ditko known for his comically large heads ? If so the figure nailed it.

Awesome thank you for the detailed history! I love knowing stuff like that so it's much appreciated! I THOUGHT it was Ditko, but the lack of under arm webs really threw me off so I didn't want to make any assumptions. I kind of wonder why they didn't do under arm webbing now though. At least as some kind of removable accessory.

After finding out it was Ditko I've looked at a bunch of his art, and while I don't think the art style has a bigger head, his Spidey in general isn't especially slender either. Though I also don't feel like the Mezco head is as big as others say. But maybe that's my own big head talking... 🤣🤣🤣

Very nice! Absolutely the early Ditko look. The spider on Spidey's chest varied from issue to issue, so that's no big deal. It still does in modern times too, if you pay attention, but back in the day, it really varied often--the webbing too. Ditko often had the webbing on Spidey's mask and costume literally change direction to imply speed or for visual effect some times.
@ComicallyToys
@ComicallyToys 7 ай бұрын
Thanks, man! That's actually really interesting to know that the webs changed direction for visual effect. That's hilariously genius. Any thoughts on the size of the Mezco Spidey head? Several people feel like it's too big, but I like it, but maybe I'm biased since I own the figure now haha!
@lostonwallace1396
@lostonwallace1396 6 ай бұрын
One of the falsehoods that I often hear spread amongst comic & toy fans today is that "Spider-Man is supposed to be thinner and smaller." This was true when he was in high school, but even in the Ditko Spidey run, Ditko gradually made him bigger and bigger. Ditko looked as him as being inexperienced, smaller, and a bit more confused as a character, but he tried to show a progression. He was getting better. As a student. As a hero. As a man. By the end of Ditko's Spidey run, he was physically just as large and muscular as Romita's version of the character. I don't think he was ever intended to remain a slender, super-lean teenage character. Ditko was not a fan of that kind of stagnation where characters never improve or move forward. Spider-Man was never intended to stay a teenage character, nor was he intended to always weigh in at 150 lbs. That's a load of modern fan B.S.@@ComicallyToys

I'll add--while I don't want to see Spider-Man as big and bulky as Captain America, I think it's perfectly fine to see him the size of Daredevil, Reed Richards, or Cyclops. He doesn't always have to be the smallest guy in the room. Leave those honors to Wolverine and Puck! lol

creases are very common with mezco figures sadly it comes with the territory of making soft goods in this scale, I've owned at least 4 different mezco spidermen and my best advice for care would be to make sure you're adjusting the fabric as you articulate to mitigate the ammount of creases when you're articulating them, dynamic poses are where you need to do this more, these figures really shine when just a smidge more time is spent making it look clean will pay off, have fun posing dudes

Lots of people are complaining about it, but the pictures I've taken and posted look good to me. I may do some stress testing to see though how bad it can really get(or not) because I think I'm a little more laid back with my figures than some other collectors are. Like in terms of wanting perfect paint apps and things like that. So I think the creases just don't bother me that much, but we'll see!

Thanks so much! As far as the cracking... I don't think it's cracking the way you might think of it. So it does crease(like I show in the video), but I think the issue that people are seeing is that the black lines for the webbing are getting messed up looking. I was trying to understand why it's messed up looking compared to other Spider-Man figures they've released(I just got Far From Home Spidey in the mail) and they appear to still be using the same vinyl type of material for the red part of the suit, but the difference is that this one has raised lines instead of just drawn/painted on. Sorry I'm not sure if I explained that very well. I may try to take a few photos for my IG to show what I think the issue is.

The FFH is still not as fitted as it should be, but it is what it is. I canceled my preorder for this Classic Spidey when I saw the suit because it seemed to be closer to Homecoming with worse stitching. I've purchased over 100 Mezco at this point.
