EMD's 100th Anniversary at the Illinois Railway Museum!

On August 20th, 2022, the Illinois Railway Museum hosted an event to celebrate Electro-Motive Diesel's 100th anniversary! For the event, EMD and a couple class one railroads displayed some of their EMD locomotives around the museum. EMD brought one of their demo SD70ACe-T4s to run on the morning's coach trains, Canadian Pacific displayed one of their recently refurbished SD40-2F locomotives, and Union Pacific showed off a GP15-1, GP38-2, and a SD70M. IRM also ran their recently restored C&NW EMD GP7 #1518 on its first revenue run! The 1518 was the first GP-series locomotive built back in 1949, so it was only fitting to have it run during the event!
Not only did diesel locomotives operate during the day, but both of IRM's working steam locomotives (Shay #5 and Frisco #1630) made a few runs as-well. With that being said, I hope you enjoy this video on EMD's 100th anniversary celebration!

Never thought I'd see a tier 4 at the IRM. Definitely love emds. They make such good locomotives

Incredible footage of this historic event! Great combination of old and new EMD power alike. I didn't know the IRM ran other engines there as well that day, so that added some diversity to an otherwise EMD Exclusive Event.

Yeah, the variety did help showcase how EMD evolved over the years and what locomotives the company produced changed. The IRM operations during that weekend also showcased how EMD helped the transition from steam to diesel

I went to the museum on the worst possible day during my vacation out there. It just happened to be a Thomas the Tank Engine day the place was loaded with families with kids a lot of the exhibits were closed the store was closed. I simply did not see the museum at its best!! This kind of stuff I would’ve loved to see but it’s a long drive from Long Island

I wonder if an EMD representative has to operate the T4 or if they're just in the cab supervising IRM's staff while they get to

There were quite a few in the cab when I saw them get out. IRM volunteers and maybe some EMD personnel.

@@SamLovesTrains That's an opportunity you don't get every day at a museum, to operate a modern locomotive. The guys out there have an incredible set up and an awesome collection of equipment. EMD seems to take a liking to it too!

At 10:25 you can see that AEM-7 #945, one of only two preserved. Where did 929 and 938 go?

938 is now with Caltrain. Idk about 929 but unfortunately it’s most likely scrapped.

Nope. Its essentially the SD70 ACe with the new 4-stroke 1010 engine. You'll have to wait a few years before the Joule electric locomotives to come to the rails.
