Well, pinoys are chill about this. If they don't want pinoy nurses because of finnish language skills, then we shouldn't. I don't understand why we need to send nurses there in the first place if that's their concern. Let the finnish solve their own nurse shortage problems then. I mean, if nurses want to work overseas, there are other countries to choose from. 😊

Been working in the US as a nurse for several years, same thing. I have experienced racism from other nurses and patients. It isn’t ideal but it is the world we live in. No matter which country you go, whether it be the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Japan, Korea or the middle east, you will experience discrimination. Every overseas Filipino worker has lived this. To survive in a country that is not your own, Kelangan maging matatag at wag balat sibuyas. Don’t expect people to adapt to you, you need to adapt kasi andun ka sa bansa nila. When in Rome, be a Roman. Europe is overburdened with their refugee crisis and all the problems that come with it. Traditionally, left leaning governments are now veering towards the right, and along that policies and attitudes towards migration are becoming conservative. That is all over the world, not just Finland. Finland wants to reduce the number of refugees that come to their country but they are willing to increase and issue more work-based visas. The fact that the Finnish government are willing to open their country to Filipino nurses, means they recognize, as have so many countries before them, our competency as nurses and work ethics. Don’t go to any country thinking everything will be smooth sailing and without hardship. The most difficult thing to overcome when you move overseas is homesickness and overcoming the cultural barriers. Ika nga culture shock is real. You will meet a LOT of ignorant people, but don’t let that hamper you from achieving your dreams. Let it be an opportunity for you to represent our country well and educate them about why we are in demand all over the world. Apply Lang ng apply mga kapatid.

@pearldans5640, yes you are right racism is everywhere but it does not mean you will tolerate the way those Fins to be looking down on pinoy nurses. I have lived in 3 different countries Middle East, Canada and now in the US and had worked in a bank, airline and hospital in the administrative level, modesty aside I have never experienced being seen or treated differently, because I speak my mind. No one in my 40 years overseas work experience have I encountered a co-worker or out of my workplace said to my face or commented negatively just because I'm from the Philippines. Perhaps behind my back maybe. I have a number of situations where I stood up for myself even at a younger age, first was in UAE, the General Manager of the Bank I worked, who happened to be an Englishman from Yorkshire when I overheard him mocking on a housemaid he spoke on the phone and he presumed a pinay, after he hung the phone I confronted him and said "excuse me sir, not all Filipinas does not know English or could not speak, how on earth did you know the person you spoke with was from the Philippines". Guess what, he apologized to me because he felt I was so furious about his ignorance, and later found out that the maid he spoke was from India. 2nd situation was two of my officemates British, an Auditor and the other Plant Engineer, that whenever I pass by they were looking at my legs and swamping me with their paperworks, so what I did to give them heck of their lives, I went and talk directly to our Regional Director and both were reprimanded and from then on they're afraid to give me paperworks and quit looking at my legs avoiding me. 3rd scenario, a British secretary of another department who gets more pay than I get despite the fact I was the one who trained her, what I did I approached the bank's CEO (same bank) and said "What does she know that I don't know, in fact I was the one who trained her",,, in an instant my pay $ got revised...4th scenario, a German Canadian lady about 5'8" tall and I am 4'11", she's a Lab Tech who tried to shut me up not wanting me to ask her about work, I raised my voice at her and said "so what?" and the next day I complained to her Supervisor, a few days later she became nice to me...and I have more scenarios but I might run out of space to type on. What I am saying is, it does not matter who they are where they came from, they are just like us who eats, poops, burp, fart etc...why would you let them belittle us. You are right, we adjust by learning their language but never let your guard down and let them do and say anything that may offend us. In my opinion, if its their country who sought help by hiring foreign nurses, then it is the responsibility of their government or their hospital administration to educate their people that the world does not evolve with their own only, if you open your door to someone it means you accept whatever they bring along with them. simple as that.

Nowhere in my statement did I state Filipinos should tolerate racism, did I? I only said that racism is everywhere. It is the world we live in. As a matter of fact, you enumerated numerous instances from your personal experience which only further supported my premise above which is that EVERYWHERE YOU GO YOU WILL ENCOUNTER RACISM. Pero nasa applicante na yan, if they allow that to hinder their dreams of living and working abroad. READING COMPREHENSION PO. Mema lang eh.

True. We experienced racism in our workplace. Hi ndi nila ina-acknowledge ang educational system ng Pinas. So for them akala nila joke lang yung tinapos natin. Pero pag nurse ka lalabas at lalabas talaga skills mo when it is needed. I seldom write a comment on KZfaq, but this time I feel the urge to do so. I am a filipino by birth but now a danish citizen. Denmark and Finland are what we call Nordic countries. Here in Denmark there is also lack of nurses, and it has been a topic at the parliament to hire Filipino nurses. If Denmark follows after Finlands solution to the problem, there will surely arise the same “issues”. But basically what I am saying is, always wear your heads up high because Filipino nurses are very capable for the job.

Finn here, hi! My problem with recruiting foreigners is due to the pay. Finland doesn't want to pay nurses the pay they deserve. That's why we are shopping cheaper workers from foreign countries and that tramples the fair pay grade for nurses. To be fair I don't know how much you get payd. If it's as much as finns then I don't have any problem but I doubt. And I personally don't have any problem that foreigners come here to work in any capacity. My problem is with the Finnish goverment that doesn't want to pay rightful salarys, not the foreign labor force. People learn other languages all the time, we know that, heck we study four languages in the elementary school as a rule. So, perconally, I wellcome you to Finland!

Hi. Thank you for your comment. Foreign workers are paid at the same rate, however for nurses they do not get to work as registered nurses. Some are hired as hoiva-avustaja while studying to be a lähihoitaja. So for those who studied for a 4-year AMK degree in the Philippines, they will be paid less than they deserve unless they will attend a pätevöitymiskoulutus. I don’t know if the recruitment agencies give their applicants that option.

It is unfortunate that some people equate language ability to competence. This is just ignorance. If they lack the manpower to care for their own people then having foreign health care workers, even nurses, is a win for them. The least their government should do is provide these workers with language courses until these reach a certain level of fluency. Most of the world don’t speak Finnish and the desire for people to learn that language is probably close to nil - save for these nurses who would leave their home countries to go to a country where they don’t speak the language and are not even welcome. They should be glad these nurses are willing to go there…. (Shaking my head in disbelief.)

Finnish is a finno-urgic language, and therefore one of the few non-indoeuropean languages in Europe. So it will be more difficult for English speakers (such as filipinos) to learn than German, Spanish etc. That said, I'd swap a little language fluency for a kind respectful nature, any day. I'm speaking both as a patient and a workmate of Filipino nurses. Sadly other nurses sometimes mistake kindness for weakness.
@sampohonkala4195
@sampohonkala4195 8 ай бұрын
"Mutta se ei ole mahdotonta oppia sitä" is not correct Finnish, but has an English structure"se ei ole" or "it is not". To say that correctly in Finnish the sentence should simply be "Mutta ei ole mahdotonta oppia sitä". Finnish grammar is different from what is common in Indo-European languages, and you make exactly the same mistake that is common to Swedish speakers that learn Finnish. This mistake does not make it impossible to understand you, but realizing you can make a mistake of this kind - invent a subject in a sentence where in Finnish there is none - means you can make a mistake that changes the meaning of what you say to something that you did not mean. And then you get an answer to a question that is different from what you thought you were asking, and the chain of misunderstanding starts. Therefore the language barrier is real and you should take it more seriously. Many of the elderly people have not studied any foreign languages and are not comfortable in an environment that is not completely Finnish or Swedish speaking. Even I have sometines a hard time understanding rather complete and technically correct Finnish sentences by foreigners, as they may choose a way of constructing a sentence in a way a Finn would never do. That said no kind of racism is of course not acceptable, although unfortunately it is rather common in Finland. Hate speech is even more common in the internet than in real life, as some of the racists are active racists and spread their message 8 hours a day in the net as if it was their job. Therefore in real life you may encounter less racism, but to some extent you will.
@Finnspirational
@Finnspirational 8 ай бұрын
@@sampohonkala4195 Thanks for commenting. Misunderstanding occurs even if 2 people speak the same language. Communication is a 2- way street, one can always clarify what the other person meant. The chain of misunderstanding would immediately end by just simply clarifying. I am not taking language barrier lightly, I am actually encouraging people to learn Finnish if they choose to work here.

@@Finnspirational I work in an office where roughly 30% of the staff are foreigners. In most teams the working language is therefore English. There are two British and two American workers but for most English is a second or third language. I can ensure that the risk of misunderstanding is multiple times grater than when working in Finnish, although all have a master's degree and several years of experience working in Finland, and generally speak good English. But of course it is possible to succeed and in many jobs the language is not the most important part - if it was we would not hire foreigners at our office.

Same here in Germany. I have tought many times to give up because of the difficulty to learn new language and be fluent on it. It requires lot of time and lots of effort to speak them. Its just a matter of not giving up and the eagerness to learn. It took me more than 2 years to gain such confidence and to ask to repeat if i dont understand. I think that is one of the key, admitt that we dont understand everything because its not our language and we are no local of the country. Mahirap pero ofw tau. Kaya natin ang challenges ng life and work abroad.

Exactly.that's why they need to be tolerant and understanding.Filipinos are naturally linguist. We easily learn languages but it would take a while. Or maybe it shd be the other way around.Why not employers do the learning of Filipino(depends if tagalog, cebuano, ilongo,ilocano, kapampangan,bicol, whahahaha) Seriously,so they can better communicate and translate instructions, anyway they are the ones in need of workers:nurses. Better yet, learn english, Filipinos understand english waaayy better than finnish language. Nurses thrive in English speaking countries. The better question is, why were they deployed there in the first place and hired at that when they know these nurses will have difficulty with regards to instruction.😏😒🤨

Yes, huwag kayong magpapatalo sa mga ibang lahi. Pag tinanong kayo kung what kind of languages you speak, sabihin niyo na my father's language, my mother's language, our national language and English language. Sabihin niyo rin na "yes, our country has a shortage for nurses, but that's because we care about others before ourselves. Salary, maybe the other factor but compassion and empathy overshadow the salary".

So they will reply back to you, if so, if You care about others before yourselves”, why did you leave your country people who needed you? When nurses are shorted in my country, there's what called "Bayanihan", that means family members can step in and fill the gap of a nurse and other obligation to the patient, so the nurse can unload a little bit of a burden on taking care of so many patient. Filipinos are resilient and creative in many ways when it comes to caring humanity. It is not justification but rather how to be a humanitarian in many ways. Filipinos are unique when it comes to caring a fellow human being. In the Philippines, rarely you will see a nursing home and nobody dies alone unlike in many other countries.

One thing that I've observed to some Filipino workers overseas is that they talked about kung gaano sila kahirap sa Pilipinas kaya sila nag-abroad para kumita ng mas malaking pera. This is the first time I’ve watched any of your videos and I must say you’ve got an intelligent sense of humour. You are really made for this 😂 In reference to the topic, I guess it is so normal for people of a certain country reacts negatively and feel threatened when Filipinos come to work in their respective countries. It is because they know the truth - that Filipinos work twice as hard and they are very good at their job/field. Imagine speaking how many languages on top of the real job description. Whereas compared to them, they probably can only speak their own language and yet their backlog at work are horrendous. And because of that, I can’t blame them 😆 Sigh! You really can’t please everyone. PS: I can say these things because I am also a Filipino migrant overseas… just not in Finland 😉

I‘ve been there before, my experiences are……Finnish people are happy when they are drank. Vodka is their perfume and drinking water.Some of them are frustrated and living in depression specially in long winter time, in summer full of mosquitos and a boring land. I’ve noticed they never ever win Grand Prix Eurovision Song Contest because their language is terrible and not compatible to the music, you can’t make a song out of their language it might destroyed your ear drums. Lappland for me is like a ghost land . What I like in Finland are Moose meat, Fish and Sauna Bath! Never again to visit this land . It’s better to visit Iceland it’s more interesting and beautiful panorama.

Fact 2: The Migri will never give work visas to Pinoy nurses if Finland can provide them .Fact 3: Finnish is indeed technically one of the most difficult languages at all, what with its multiple cases, and there is no one to practice it with !! except in Finland.

Well try not to! For those Filipino nurses living in Finland, take this as a challenge. Learn the languange and believe that knowledge is power. TOO BAD. THEIR GOVT SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS STATEWIDE PROBLEM COMING.... They could have given INCENTIVES TO their OWN PEOPLE to take up NURSING CAREERS if they have realized they'll have an IMPENDING SHORTAGE.... BLAME YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT, FINLAND, for lack of FORSIGHT! 😂😂😂 As for Pinoy nurses, you have far better choices to practice your career, other than Finland.... you probably get better pay and treatment elsewhere, so don't fret. o

Ngayon may 4 Pinoys mga 6 naCastila at maraming Bumbay. Nag-retire ako nuong 2006 after 29 years.

Yung mga may hirit sa tungkol sa language skill sinagot ko at pinamukha na unfair kung mamaliitin ang mga pinoy nurses. At may mga comments akong pinabura dahil offensive.

Forget those Sanamagans! They are simply racists! Their superiority complex have gotten in their big heads. Why bother! There are much better opportunities and far greener pastures for the Filipino nurses in so many other countries wanting their unparalleled nursing care and services. Mabuhay ang mga Filipino nurses!

Anywhere you go in the world, as a foreigner they will say negative and foul comments. You have to develop a thicker skin as part of your adaptive skills. Be professionals and be proud Filipinos. That’s all you can do.

I don't think Filipinos should need to learn the Finnish language before looking for work in Finland. Why should I apply to work in Finland where I can find work in other countries that only need English-speaking nurses? If a Finnish wants to hire Filipino nurses, they should be the ones sending them to language school and shoulder the expenses.
@Finnspirational
@Finnspirational 9 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your comment. Recruitment agencies shoulder the expenses for the finnish language course. But it seems that it is not enough, Finnish language is not easy to learn. I often say that if a nurse has the option to work in an English-speaking country, then by all means go for it. It is impossible to do nursing care without proficiency in the language that your patient speaks.

@@Finnspirational You know in Japan, there is a device used to translate English words into Japanese. You speak English words on that device and it will translate and speak out the words in Japanese. Finland could have acquired the same technology from Japan to solve this language barrier among foreign workers.

@@nicknock4091 Thanks for the info. I love Japan and everything about that country. One solution is to make the nursing profession in Finland more appealing to its own citizens. The basic salary of nurses in Finland is almost the same if not even lower than that of truck drivers'. So go figure :-) Some maybe actuallu have the passion for healthcare, but migrate to other countries for a better pay.
