What a wonderful treat to be able to see this program. Sadly, the four MGM stars are physically gone, but their movies will be enjoyed and appreciated for decades to come.

Really terrific interviews, thank you! Van Johnson was so fantastically charming, he's a pleasure to listen to. And I'd say this was probably Ms Miller's hair was at its biggest - she certainly wouldn't have needed a helmet on a motorcycle!

This was a very young John Davidson. He's a lot older now and live in my State of New Hampshire. His hair is mostly white now but he still has that chiseled face and still loves to entertain.

Funniest throw away line over the audience's heads...Ann on Van: "We did Too Many Girls together at RKO" and John Davidson replies "Is that the name of a film??" LMAO. Though he then should've asked Van if he did Something For the Boys as well.

Did Cyd Cherisse snub Ann Miller when she first came on? It looked like she brushed right past it Ann!
@MTknitter223 жыл бұрын
it sorta looked that way, didn’t it, embarrassing for Ann. 😯
@esmeephillips58883 жыл бұрын
@@MTknitter22 Maybe accidental, but Cyd did have a rep for being snooty with co-workers. Classically trained ballerina and all that. Ann openly derided ballet, which she refused to learn as a child; Cyd couldn't tap, a style associated with vaudeville. Dance has its snobberies, but neither lady could sink to the cheesiness of John Davidson in his flares!
@jackjules75527 ай бұрын
Yes, it is odd that Cyd did not greet Ann warmly on this show since Cyd and Ann both danced together in an MGM film called "The Kissing Bandit", one of the best dance numbers I have ever seen on film. Although Cyd is more balletic and Ann was more of a tapster, they blended beautifully as they danced as a threesome with Ricardo Montalban who lifted both Cyd and Ann at the same time during the dance. @@esmeephillips5888

Great to see, if only Van Johnson would have let one of the others finish a sentence.
@MTknitter223 жыл бұрын
He was known to be uh rather full of himself! He let out about Gene Kelley’s ego and hairpiece while on some other show, it was a hoot. The others were uncomfortable - oops! It was way funny.
@esmeephillips58883 жыл бұрын
@@MTknitter22 Van got bitchy after he was let go by Hollywood, which required its contract players to be discreet and decorous. He had spent so long pretending to be all-American beefcake that he enjoyed being free to gossip. And as his face filled out he lost that anguished look caused by his auto smash, becoming jollier.

33:34 - strange that they would play “I Could Have Danced All Night“ to fade into the commercial ... “My Fair Lady” was a Warner Bros. film, not MGM 🤦♂️🤷♂️

And now the Warner Archive is excerpting Metro musicals all over YT. Louis B Mayer and Jack Warner were deadly rivals who once had a fight in the steam room of the Hillcrest Country Club, hitting each other with knotted towels. How Jack must be crowing in movie Valhalla now MGM's musical legacy has dropped into WB's mitts.

It is a shame that Ann Miller didn't find happiness sooner...
@jackjules75527 ай бұрын
There is no such thing as happiness. People should stop expecting to be happy. Ann should have just appreciated her many accomplishments and the fact that she had such a rewarding career.

Ann Miller super nice & talented, was 58 at this time but looked much older the hairstyle of that jetblack dyed hard hair and green eyeshadow & overly blushed always made her look old fashioned and dated

as a fellow Texan, and immensely proud of Ann Miller, she was Cherokee- Her hair was natural even though the garish makeup and styling were meant to conceal her age. She worked from the age of 5, and finally reached a well deserved stardom for her unique and powerful talents. Recently her courage was recognized, as we learned with horror that her first husband had thrown her down a flight of stairs. She was pregnant, lost the baby, and suffered a broken back. This is Ann Miller.

She tried to look younger when old, having tried to look older when young- to the extent of falsifying her birth certificate. Some folks are never satisfied with the age God gave them.
@johnfd02102 жыл бұрын
When once chided about her "look" (the hair and make up) she simply replied, "Look, it sells tickets." If it made her happy, then great!

@randysills4418: Kathryn Grayson should never have sung in the movies with edgy quavering voice, not when Jane Powell was on the lot. Yuck, what a trrrible singer.
