As a fun note, some of the downloaded/"UNLOCKED" camouflages actually have, or by the HD version possibly had, effects. The Grenade pattern made grenades infinite, Mummy prevented you from sustaining injuries, and I believe Santa prevented your stamina from draining over time.

Ah, the memories. I remember you could download special camouflages and face paints by connecting the PS2 to the internet. I had a slim PS2 that had the Ethernet port built-in and I was able to download them. The thing was, it would take half of my Memory Card, so I didn’t keep them for too long.

The "BLACK" option for the face paint will surely help with the black camouflage, as it works particularly well in dark areas where the shadows should conceal you nicely. It has absolutely nothing to do with the police, as Metal Gear is particularly about war and the military forces around the world.
