Flinch free is a double edged sword, on one hand your team can't trip you during a combo while the other they can't save you if you're stunned, paralyzed or asleep

It does, but some specific moves will hit you even though you are lying on the ground.

Not only does it definitely give you an absolute shit-ton of i-frames while prone like that, but if they stood up, they would have probably safely stood up into the beam and would have been able to just stand inside of it without getting hit.
