The fact you have 2,000 in the Kiowa makes me much more confident you know what you're talking about than the 500 in the Apache. The videos of the Kiowa are NUTS.

Casmo have you found a parameter set for landing the hind as far as airspeed/vs? Like in the Robbies, we look for roughly 30 knots / -300 fpm on final. I haven't been able to find any documentation or even suggestions as far as what the hind "wants"

Thanks as always! I'm struggling here with HIND, haha! I had huge problems with Hind and the mods that I used to create my maps. Now I removed all mods and Hind works correctly! I'm finally going to start flying this beast! I hope you are doing very well, my friend!

Some of the best advice I ever got from a instructor was don't move the controls, but think about moving them. Its so easy to over control a helicopter and that has helped me make my flying a lot smoother.

Nicely done! No ground effect? I’ve flown RC helicopters. No 3D flight but standard stuff. The RC I flew had a fixed collective so lift was regulated via rotor speed. That RC experienced ground effect in a major way. It would almost enter into a hover just from the ground effect. Is ground effect included in the flight model?

Yes, ground effect is very much simulated in DCS, for both helicopters and planes. But the hind is a heavy beast, so even in ground effect you need a lot of power to hover. Especially with a full load of weapons like GS had.

Hey GS, I've got an idea for a future video - pit the modded Raptor against an F-15 modded with Raptor engines. If the compromises in aero and weight made on the Raptor to incorporate stealth carry through to the mod, then the re-engined F15 should trounce the Raptor every time in a WVR fight.

This video makes me wonder why I struggle so much to land the Hind (without dying to VRS) but yet I can put the Ka-50 down on a postage stamp quickly and without any fear of VRS. Is there something about the coaxial rotors that make is less prone to VRS, maybe the weight, or is it really just down to practice, practice, practice?

Coaxial rotors eliminate the need to coordinate anti-torque pedals with your collective inputs, which make things easier. And the Ka-50 also has a really good auto-pilot that makes it very stable. Familiarity with the aircraft and self-confidence of the pilot also play a role for sure. As they say, practice makes perfect. If you can land the Ka-50 with precision then it means you already have a decent understanding of how to land a helicopter. You just need to get a feeling for the peculiarities of the Hind.

The loadout is very important during the landing. I had to shed some stuff (bombs mainly) because the chopper kept falling like a brick 10m from the ground. All the time.

Sounds to me like you did not raise the collective back up to hover power when you lost translational lift, or you encountered VRS, or both. If your helicopter was able to hover at startup, then you shouldn't need to shed any weight to land.

@@arthurvilain7270 probably VRS but the chopper didn't behave like it does usually (shaking around and loosing balance) it literally fell vertically. I will keep practicing.

Here's how I do it: 1) Back stick to lose airspeed 2) Reduce collective to maintain altitude 3) Rudder as necessary to compensate for collective and maintain heading 4) Hold this configuration until in the hover 4.5) As you approach 0 airspeed, increase collective to maintain altitude, use rudder to maintain heading 5) On reaching 0 airspeed, lower the landing gear and gently reduce collective to settle to the ground 6) Apply brakes 7) Shut down engine 8) Brag

While the Mils are big, they also are quite stable so once you get the hang of their quirks it's surprisingly smooth flight. No wibbly wobbly.

hey, if anyone could help me here. i downloaded the f22a mod, and it works fine. But, theres an issue that i dont know how to fix. The issue is I cant pitch up or down.
