EEFG by no means is this storm weakening to that degree. The lowest pressure record for Katrina was 902mb and Andrew was 922mb, by no means is this storm going to die fast enough for it not to be catastrophic. Irma is at 927mb while hovering over partial land/mountains, it also on record that there is little wind sheer slowing it down and the water is quite warming only helping/fueling this storms strength. It also may have about 4-5 hours over the warm water before making Florida landfall and that is enough time to bring it way back up. Hurricanes are unpredictable and it could bounce further west into the gulf only giving it more time to get even stronger before making landfall. Irma is a very, very strong hurricane. Also, keep in mind it has been a Cat 5 for almost a week and a half with very little fluctuation. I think max wind in eye was 185mph and now at a 160 after 4 or 5 days and 3 landfalls, this storm is absolutely incredible in strength
