Anybody that know about overtown should know the history is so rich about overtown. Back in the 50s and 60s overtown was known as the harlem of the south one of the few cities in south during that time peroid where blacks was thriving. If not the only. Muhahmmad ali came down all the time to box in the 60s and whenever mlk use to take breaks from his speeches and marches he came right to overtown and stay at a hotel its a pic of him in a overtown hotel pool throwing up the peace sign. Not just miami i like the afrcian amercian history of florida peroid. The good side though!!!. Lots of famous people came out this state. Edit: My bad yall. He actually stayed in a hotel in liberty city. On hampton road. I got the 2 cities confused. But pretty sure he came to overtown sometimes as long with malcome x and ali. That goes to show how thriving the afrcian amercians in miami were

There were bloody drug wars back in the 1980's that dealt Miami a black eye when drug lords from South America were pouring in through the ports of Miami with narcotics, almost got so bad to a point that Reagan almost sent in the National Guard and military to stop to carnage. For anybody thinking shit don't look as rough as it used to, just walk around there at 2am, and see for yourself. Gentrification changed Wynwood (next door), but it'll take longer to really show in places like Overtown, Liberty City, Little Haiti, Allapattah, parts of Little Havana, Opa-Locka, North Miami, Miami Gardens, Brown Sub, etc. If you're a tourist, just stay in South Beach and Brickell. The only boarded place I seen was apartment building getting ready to go thru renovation. I don't see a lot of trash everywhere. Looks cleaner than a lot of suburbs. This place must have been through a lot of fixing up and revitalization. If that's the case, keep up the good work. The only place this neighborhood needs now is probably full service grocery store and commercial areas. Homeless people camped out are all in one spot. It is actually very clean compared to a lot of encampments. I wonder how they manage that?

The real test for neighborhoods like this - would you be willing to walk through them at 11:00 at night?
@Bothomas-vm5hz2 жыл бұрын
by the looks of this video, this hood looks much better than Inglewood CA where i grew up near imperial and crenshaw gunshots almost every single night i sure this happens here also

I heard in recent news that Miami is the most expensive place to buy real estate in the country surpassing Los Angeles and New York.....obviously they mean coastal miami,Fl not inland ghetto miami,Fl

Once more money begins to flow in the areas, it may be profoundly improved. The poor may have to be relocated or become homeless.
@chocolatechipslime2 жыл бұрын
I can definitely see the poor being relocated. Miami is gentrifying too fast. Too little land and too much money flowing into that city. Range Rovers are as common there as Nissan altimas are here in Alabama
@mmrw2 жыл бұрын
Well sure it’s the same everywhere right, pretty much all cities have bad areas and good areas where the money flow into

Inland as well, you’d be surprised at the cost of houses in those neighborhoods

America will suffer the consequences for all the injustice, racism, and inequality bestowed on the poor. It’s inevitable. The homeless in Florida Will camp out among the high rises. Downtown Miami will look like downtown LOs Angeles.

Overtown is being cleaned up . Even as recently as ten years ago it was night and day . At some point during the peak of the opioid crisis I would say there was a trn block square area that was a complete open air drug market , with every corner maintained by a gang of ten or so pushing crack and heroin. There are still a couple of pockets of major homeless encampments mostly under overpasses that fuels most of the drug market , but it seems like most of the whites and more affluent people who were really making the area out of control with the influx of drug money have died out? Gotten clean ? Are in jail ? I hope they got clean. I did . That’s how I know all this shit . Five years on July 16 .
