Welcome to the Pilot Episode of the Pro Gk Pro Series!
With the first edition of this series, you will be watching Colorado Rapids Goalkeeper Coach and 1st Team Assistant, Chris Sharpe work his goalkeepers through a pre-season session. As you'll see, this session was all about recovery movements with balance, while creating depth behind bodies!
I started this series because I wanted to give you guys as much context behind a session as I could. I realized that when watching other gk sessions on social media, it was difficult to understand why a coach was doing what they were doing. That being said, I made sure to ask Chris to breakdown his session as well as provide context to what he was looking for in each progression!
While watching the session, I want you guys to have an open mind and to also ask questions! Questions about the progressions, about the coaching points, and about the session as a whole! That curiosity is extremely important because, while we could all perform the same drills & progressions, I highly doubt that we'd coach it the exact same way. So keep an open mind and think about what Chris is saying, as well as what you'd say in those moments during a session!
Lastly, for all of us coaches & for all of you goalkeepers, watch closely how Chris speaks to his goalkeepers. He was stern, yet respectful, and was able to get a lot out of his guys. His expectations from the service to the technique is as professional as it gets and I personally picked up a lot of Chris' coaching points, and have since adopted them to my sessions!
Hope you guys enjoy & please let me know what you guys think!
