Same I kept him in jail and I’m all the way to the valentine bank robbery and still haven’t gone to see him at his camp outside Strawberry it’s been like almost half the game already and I haven’t had him at camp at all.

I didnt expect to have a $300 bouty teying to rescue him. So i refused to do his next mission for over a week. I had enough money to pay off any bounty the ass hat could possible rack up.

I believe in chapter 4 Dutch tells Arthur that life shouldn't be held so tightly, but when Arthur mentions about the safety of the women and children. Dutch goes quiet and proceeds to tell Arthur that he sounds just like Hosea before expressing how much he misses him. Really goes to show that everything really started to fall apart when Hosea died and Micah slithered himself into Dutch's ear.

his attempts of small talk with Hosea is just him trying to weasel his way to control. Micah also attempted to cozy up to Arthur in the earlier chapters too. Since Dutch, Hosea and Arthur were the three leaders of the gang, Micah tried to swoon them all but since he failed on doing so with Arthur and Hosea, he focused all his manipulation to Dutch lol.

I think it more so of both Hosea’s and Arthur’s presence accompanied by a lack of Dutch. Facing off one gang Co-Founder is relatively easy for a Senior Gun, but not two Co-Founders… nor a Co-Founder and Enforcer.

Literally everyone can see through Micah, every single person in camp openly hates Micah, to his face. Which is why it is kind of an annoying plot hole to me for Dutch to have fallen for him.

Well, every mission with Micah goes wrong ;p He just brings misfortune on people. and it's out of his control most of the time, I think people blame it on Micah way too much.

My other theory is that Micah was a "traitor" from the start, Vengeance is Hereby Mine graven on his guns, which are more precious to him than anything else.......vengeance for what..? Plus, it leaves room for a prequel. But some things are best left untouched by the player for the sake of the narrative

It's kind of a vicious cycle because Micah doesn't care about forging those bonds since he considers those who foster them weak, so ofc people wouldn't like him as much, which would in turn fuel his opinions of them even more. And yes! Micah joined Dutch's gang expecting a bunch of tough guys and was met with a (strange, somewhat dysfunctional) family- seeing them as weaklings, even Dutch himself, probably had him realizing it wouldn't take too much for him to manage to climb to the top of the infamous van der linde gang, and to power. He just has to take down its pillars, such as Grimshaw, Hosea, Arthur and John, and Dutch would unwind. But you know what's my favorite detail about Micah? It's that he's a rat... But he's not THE rat. Because there isn't one for a LOT of the story. The game implies (even here, in these scenes) that something went wrong in Blackwater. Something went wrong in Saint Denis. Someone snitched, right? Well yea, Micah did, but the Pinkertons only caught him when they came back from the caribbean... AFTER both of these events. In the end, Micah took full advantage of the chaos, but the gang has such faith in Dutch that they become unrealiable narrators, they're convinced someone spoke when no one did, it was literally just the change of times catching up to them. As far as we know, there *wasn't* a rat in Blackwater or Saint Denis. Just Dutch facing the fact that things were changing. Which is why to me, yea, Micah sped up that process, but the gang would fall apart anyway because Hosea would always follow Dutch, even when he disagreed and even to his grave, and John (quite possibly Arthur, even without the TB) would always end up loosing faith... And that and the pressure that Dutch was feeling would always get to him in the end. It was always inevitable much like the end of the "wild west" era. Rockstar was a genius with this storyline.

I also see some people who think the van der linde gang wouldn't have broken apart if Micah wasn't involved but I don't see why. Dutch acted irrational even without Micah. They were doomed once they decided to fight the law and follow an unhinged leader.

In reality, they were deeply caught up in their past and interpersonal struggles. I think, that's one of the reasons Dutch kind of loses himself more and more towards the end. I also love that you can chose to do good (DUH I know...), yet you aren't *a good person*. Arthur still robs and kills people, he's insensitive and even cruel at times. Yet he cares a lot about his family, he's loyal, he's gentle towards his horse. I like that. It keeps such a nice balance, it means he's not a typical hero but just a flawed human being and that makes Arthur so real and likable. Also love details like that he is, despite always stating the opposite, incredibly intelligent and creative. It's so non-cliché, just as the ending, which is another thing that I love. It makes you care about the story.

@@dusundavarfreohr3491 They say it at some point that before the changing of the times, they could just keep running and put distance between them and their problems until they went away. I don't think Dutch really has a great sense for anything else besides leading the gang and running for greener pastures, so he's grown very good at keeping his little group of misfits together and beholden to each other, for better or worse. And yea, I love that even White Hat Arthur is constantly correcting everyone who says he's a good man while he helps them. His confessional conversations are also insightful to him, the ones you can get from the girls after low honor sprees, where he laments killing innocents or whatever you've been doing with him. It's clear that he doesn't like being the violent muscle all the time, but knows it's what he's good at.

I think Dutch started losing his sanity when the only woman he loved was killed by Colm in retaliation of him killing Colm's brother, you can tell this affected him deeply because Molly tried her best to get Dutch to pay her attention instead he always looked spaced out whenever she talked to him is like he couldn't bring himself to love another woman.

I dont think the gang coud be save after they fail rop in blackwater but if hosea dont got kill more menbers coud be still alive i also think at some point dutch woud see that micah was the traitor

@@mattbrabham6351 Bill is poor drunken fool, it's increasingly clear with his lines of dialogue during missions and at the camp that he's not very bright and has a strong inferiority complex due to that. Siding with Dutch and Micah, he feels stronger and Arthur and Hosea were always on his back, so it's no wonder he would side with the others. Javier is more subtle, he's warmer and less dumb, but he's a bit of a coward and has put all his faith into Dutch. He's not ready to let it go.

Yeah it was pretty frustrating being forced down a single path. Obviously it had to happen as the events of RD1 were to follow but I do hope that the next game takes a lesson from Fallout NV. It would be so cool if your actions and decisions could end up with multiple different endings.

TulieCowboy I don’t think a Jack Marston continuation would make sense. Rdr1 takes place during 1911 (Jack is a teen) and most likely near the 1920s when he is grown up in the ending. At that time, the whole “outlaw” persona was mostly dead. They will most likely go further back in time
