During a time when Germany did not do well (2001-04 despite reaching a WC final), Ballack was one of the brightest spots of the German national team. Alongside Kahn and Klose, he was one of their standout performers just before the Lahm - Schweinsteiger - Muller - Ozil - Podolski era.

Just imagine if he won all that trophies with Leverkusen and Germany back in 2002, would be the greatest Ballon D'or winner of all time. Considering both Leverkusen and Germany are not a title contender at the time (Germany was so bad in previous WC and EURO). Not even Messi or Ronaldo would broke that record.
@sidvyas8549
@sidvyas8549 Жыл бұрын
There is no doubt about this. Leverkusen weren’t any sort of a powerhouse. They’d have beaten Bayern and THAT Real Madrid to win the treble. To top it, Ballack with Germany would’ve beaten THAT Brazil side to win the WC, which also would’ve put Germany on par with Brazil at 4 titles each, making it truly and arguably the greatest individual season ever, coz Ballack truly was the heart of both Leverkusen and Germany. Shame he missed the WC final tho. Stupid accumulation of yellows…would’ve been different perhaps with him there. And ofc Kahn’s uncharacteristic mistakes to gift O Fenômeno his brace…

Id put him into an alltime best german squat without hesitation! He was our Ruud Gullit. Able to do everything on the field. From winning the ball, keeping it, guiding his team as a pure alpha leader to scoring goals with brutally powerfull shots, also via free kicks. Bonus was his incredible header strength which made him a monster at crosses and corners. He just had the bad luck of having his prime during the early 2000s when german football had a severe crisis. Him, Kahn and Klose were the only ones we could count on. Ill never forget how he single-handedly carried us through many matches during world and european cups. Michael, du warst ne Maschine! In my opinion, probably up there with Matthaus, Beckenbauer, Mueller, Klinsmann as Germany’s all time individual greats. Unfortunately for him, he was playing at a time when Germany was not producing the most capable of talents unlike the previous Generation of Kohler, Sammer, Bierhoff, Klinsmann. He was head and shoulders better than any other German player for the national team and he was their main man, like a Gerrard for Liverpool. Apart from the legendary Oliver Kahn who could not help with the scoring department

He even missed the World Cup final in 2002 cause he got his second yellow card (blocked for the next match) in the semi-final. This was so sad and just unfair. Because of Ballack, the rule was changed. Now, all yellow cards are cancelled in semi-finals.

Yes! I have said this for years! He was absolutely quality tho! And if he’d took home a few more of them trophies he’d be considered a true great
Long-distance goals but they get increasingly more ridiculous
