I didn’t realize how significant it was at the time, but I got to play as the changeover act from Brecker’s band (this lineup) to Paul Shaffer and the World’s Most Dangerous Band on the Jacksonville Jazz fest. (Yes, we were scared to death to play after witnessing THIS astounding ensemble. 😅🎶 Crazy thing is they were all such sweet, supportive cats to boot. Joey, Adam, Mike, Jeff and Michael were just dudes offstage, but damn superheroes on it. Rest In Peace sweet Michael. You are so missed… 😔

THANK YOU MR BRECKER. YOU CHANGED EVERTHING more than you could have known at the time. wow

From all human beings that ever walked on this planet, nobody went so deep on the saxophone as Michael Brecker. His solo on "Nothing Personal" is simply astonishing, as always.

I"m so glad to have this. The best I've seen by this band. Joey C is a cut above. The way he can still pull together a solo that spellbinds the audience after ten minutes of blues changes.

Thanks Louis! There was just something about this lineup that was so special. A true band! This is the band that blew my mind, and really the first band that I'd seen Mike live with.

Russ, yes this was something very special. We were young when we saw this band but already then I knew that something was going on. The playing, the fun, the interaction on stage, the energy.

The "Saxosynth" EWI, with Mike Stern and Band at the controls, offers Michael Brecker the tools to high light the magnificent Rock-Funk-Fusion side of him, flavored with Organic Real Jazz opulence. Oh, how Coltrane would have adored, admired and praised Michael who was the epitome of Genius - with an upper-cased "G"! (Mike perhaps used to practice in his "sleep" - which was fantastic, as it paid great dividends) In "Skylark", I can hear the sound-voice and style of Ernie Watts; can you? Michael Brecker was virtuosic in part because he was a well-disciplined, well-schooled and decent student of impeccable character and exemplary citizenship. Thanks to You Tube and the video posting; the world got to know the "Greatest" saxophonist of HIS time. Talent and genius - not "who knows whom" - must be the foundation and gateway to fame, fortune (and financial success) Brecker, Stern and the drummer have involuntarily been "pushing" the trumpeter who does a fantastic performance. MB:RIP!

Thanks Louis Gerrits for the postings. Michael Brecker "is" master of the "Saxosynth" (EWI) No one has come close to eclipsing him thereon. He is not afraid to "extend" irrespective of the diatribes and platitudes from the musical quacks. Go, Mike!

It's neat to hear the precursor to some of the ideas he used later (at Lugano in 1998) in Delta City Blues at around 13:35! The same licks can be heard at around 2:35 in the later video.

I was going to say, with respect to my current fav tune; original rays (49:30-on ish) that things were looking shaky for MB after two years shedding this tune after Newport '87..., but the oberheim-powered synth-sax solo prior to the main theme is restorative... the solo the record should have had instead of that silly unintelligent chorusing... Yngwie Malmsteen would have been running to the toilet after hearing some of these lines..(around 51:00)... Joey C. gets the opening solo which is tastino... i love this performance, thanks for posting..
