He just never ran out of ideas. Yeah, there's the occasional repeat but man, 5 minutes of soloing over a remedial standard and mostly one new idea after another!

@@MaxRevittNot really, from a regular jazz fan's perspective, this sounds mostly straightforward in the spirit of the original recording. If you wanna check real "deconstruction", check Miles Davis cover of 'Round Midnight', for example.

that's obvious :) I think it make the same effect even to lots of better saxophone player than me (I play alto and clarinet) - even if this isn't my favourite style his command of the instrument (and his value as an artist) is unbelievable.

@Carlos Schvartzman by balancing in playing and outplaying while using target tones he masterfully can play anything over the chages. he also takes rhythmic consonance into consideration in his manipulations of time and balances rhythmic conconance and dissonance. brilliant. melodic development is something he uses frequently as welll.

Nowadays, Pat Bartley from the J-music ensemble is quite capable. Not really in the same style as Brecker but still an amazing saxophonist
