I met Mike on my first year at Berklee,as soon as I saw the Flyer at the performance center,I got my ticket. On the day of the sound check by coincidence I saw him at the back door and he glance at me and invited me inside,very cold February day,we became friends for the rest of his life. I have only positive and beautiful memories of him,not to mention that he influenced me as a and a human. I’m always thankful and grateful. He’s memory will live forever.

This was a great video thanks. I met Michael once back in the 80s when he went to the same dentist in New York as I did. A really nice guy to talk to. RIP!

My saxophone teacher was friends with Michael Brecker and actually did a few gigs with him in the 90s and worked on a project together. My saxophone teacher was also in NYC for a jazz educators conference when he heard that Brecker died. It really messed him up because because even though he wasn’t close with Brecker, he admired him as a musician and a person. Rest In Peace Michael Brecker 🙏🏾🎷

There were Jackson Brothers, Allman Brothers, and sure Brecker Brothers. They have put art, music, culture, and inspiration in human history. RIP Michael Brecker. ❤

The first time I heard him consciously was one "Maxine" by Donald Fagen. A fantastic solo, inspiring me to discover his work with Randy and own projects. Also love his work with Steps Ahead and other artists, for example Mike Stern. I was lucky to hear him live twice. Unforgettable! Thanks a lot for this video. ♥️

This is a great little documentary. If you dig back a little further, you'll find some of Michael's important recordings that are even earlier than The Brecker Brothers album. "In Pursuit of the 27th Man" - Horace Silver (1973) (his solo on Gregory Is Here is sick!), and a band that he a and Randy were a part of with Barry Rogers and Will Lee called Dreams. The albums "Dreams" (1970) and "Imagine My Surprise" (1971) laid a lot of the groundwork for what would come with The Brecker Brothers. He also did several dates with the great Hal Galper in the earlier 70s that are very much worth a listen. You can hear how he was trying to work with the influences of Coltrane to find his sound, and how those ideas would evolve much later on during his solo album phase.

Michael Brecker's guest performances on The Section's first album (1972) provides a good reference of the mix of popular/rock music and jazz/jazz fusion that he was playing at the time. That's because although The Section played on popular/rock albums, this particular album comprises only instrumental pieces. Unusually, i think that he even plays soprano saxophone on one track.

Thanks for this great overview on the beautiful and talented person that is Michael Brecker. I have almost all solo albums and his main jazz collaborations. This video in a way brings back many memories (even on his performances in te Netherlands I was lucky to have experienced), but also promts me to revisit and listen to his work again. And quickly buy the last missing albums for my collection.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video! I have about 300 jazz fusion records and he’s there on several of them. One of my favourite solos from him is on Kazumu Watanabe’s ‘Cokumo Island’. I was grappling with fusion at the time and that track just did it for me. I’ve just discovered ‘Timeline’ thanks to you.

Thank you for this awesome document about Michel Brecker, but bro I think you are forgetting two important recordings . In 1981 Steps recorded "Smokin' In The Pit", a live album. And in this incredible album there is an explosive and great composition by Mike called : Not Ethiopia. In 1981 Michael Brecker recorded The Three Quartet, a memorable and serious album by Chick Corea. The solos of Brecker in this album are fire.

I’m right with you are almost everything, which is rare, but watching jazz videos. Couple of things, though, the first of which is Gary Burton is by far the greatest chess vibraphonist of all time, and in every way. I’m sure Mike, Maneri would agree, and for crying out loud he invented the way everyone plays the vibes now. Secondly, Michael Brecker’s collaboration of three quartets with Chick Corea. is in my opinion the pinnacle of this whole period.
