So sad that Michael has retired but I'm glad I stumbled on this video. He's such a natural storyteller and charming man.

Truly one of the greats with so many brilliant roles on his CV. Educating Rita is his best IMHO. Caine's longevity is all the more obvious when you realise many of those interviewing him are no longer with us.

And although he never talks about it, it’s a fact Michael Caine like anyone his age then, did his National Service. In the UK and served his country in the British Army in the Korean War, specifically in West Germany and Korea. And almost died in combat. This military period dominated his life from 1952 to 1954. But I know now, When i see how he holds a rifle in a scene in Get Carter I realise why he’s so comfortable and experienced with it. He certainly knows firearms.

I love Talking Pictures, Sylvia Simms narrates it beautifully. I also very much admire Michael Caine, he's not forgotten where he comes from. 👍🇬🇧

How long do actors have? Well he had forever as an actor. I think too ,his film Get Carter is one of the best films I’ve ever watched. Michael Caine produced that film if I recall , not only starred in it. And the film broke thru a whole new kind of movie about villains violence and crime. apparently it was shocking at the time. But if there was no Get Carter there would have been no Reservoir Dogs. The intro music to Get Carter is as cool af too.

The British wealth tax they are discussing was actually really unfair. And at this time a very punitive Inheritance Tax came in and between 1945 and 1965 this resulted in the demolition of of so many important historical British mansions. Demolished because the sons who inherited these huge properties couldn’t pay the Death Duties. A way of getting out of it was demolishing the mansion if it failed to sell. . So they did, 100’s of them. Even more so in Scotland. There was no such thing as English Heritage or any protective body to stop the demolitions. It has been called a ‘cultural tragedy’.

He did eventually up sticks and relocate to several other locations - the Labor Government of the early 1970's had policies that were hugely punitive to those on high incomes.

What a shame he displays a quintessential inferiority complex whenever he talks of UK actors who speak with an educated and cultured accent. He never compliments say Leo Genn or George Sanders or James Mason. He can only describe them as Posh gits ,are some such. Pity, after all, not all are snobs.
