Chandler is a good example of how to make money as an athlete in MMA; put on a show, work with the media often and practice speaking well, negotiate professionally with the UFC, put on a show, put on a show, put on a show… The way he fights will get him big fights, the way he handles business will keep him in a strong partnership with the ufc for the duration of his life, and his work with the media will build his brand and allow him to make money outside of his fights and work as a commentator afterwards. The UFC has reason to block these boxing matches; they devalue the company by devaluing the fighters, because the boxers will continue winning and the mma fighters will look bad - regardless how much money they make on one fight. Why wouldn’t a brand protect itself? Heck, the fighters may not realize it but they are protecting their legacy as well, and if the fighters played the game like a pro then they would make the money they want while also helping the sport grow that they started their career in. Tom Brady and Payton Manning could make a hundred million each if they would have sold PPVs for people to see them compete in a passing competition in their prime, but they wouldn’t even think of pulling attention from their team during the season for them to get a payday - The UFC fighters need to start looking at their peers as a team that needs to do everything they can to bring eyes to the sport; cuz right now everyone is just looking to bring eyes to themselves.
