First time I heard this piece I was a little boy (I am 44 now). My father used to play the cassette recorder, little did he know how hypnotizing this music was for me, with the hiss of the radio and the sound of lazy rain drops outside. I did not know the name of this master piece or the composer until very recently when I heard it in the background of a video on KZfaq. My father passed away three weeks ago. But whenever I play this music I could see him sitting in his favorite spot, smoking his cigarette and gazing through the window, with the hiss of the cassette recorder and the sound of the lazy rain drops. Rest in peace dear father.

Now thats a nice interpretation. Satie's songs should be so hard to make them sound "Satiesh" on guitar, because that obscure and urban sound kinda gets lost. On Piano, Gymnopédie sounds somewhat eerie, nostalgic, and depending on guitar strings, it feels just like a sad summer.

Mr Durrant... Thank you for that. I just heard this song recently and started exploring different interpretations on the Internet. I think your version was sublime. Truly inspirational. I've been playing for 40 years, but this is the first year I've been playing classical guitar and I'm going to study your work and try to learn from you. Thank you so much.

When it comes to certain pieces of Classical music I tend to lean toward the instrument I first heard them on and piano was a stickler for me on Satie's but hearing this for the first time here, I was so taken to a new sound wave that I feel motivated to learn it on guitar and without so many notes as compared with the piano where the right hand follows the left in perfect harmony as a set but with two different 'brains', both hands have to play their own arrangements as if trying to 'complement each other'. The guitar becomes a true melodic way to achieve the same harmony with so much less and with a smoother sound that pleases the senses. I would like to know what 'Brand' of guitar was used here so I could buy it. The sound just blew me away in a frenzy of Ecstasy! Even while playing the last fading notes, the sound could reach the tiniest corner of that Studio set, just amazing... Simply. Thanks in advance if you could provide this info. Thanks again...

I decided to listen to this acoustic cover over the other ones on you tube because his hands looked sad to me. That's when you know in artist's soul is an the music he's playing. When even his hands look sad. Beautiful.

Man, this is cool. I'm not a music person, but I feel like this song manages to keep the same softness of the original piano piece, all while taking on a life of it's own. The original was sad, somber, melancholy, but hauntingly beautiful. This version, while retaining a bit of the haunting-ness of the original, has a happier, nostalgic feeling. It sets itself apart while still clearly being a cover. Absolutely incredible.

It's not about what he plays. It's about HOW he plays is. Everyone can certainly play this piece (or almost anyone) but not everyone can play it with this quality: his mechanism and expression.

To J.D. Honeyheart Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. Django Baby! You know I played classical guitar till I got arthritis 2 years ago. Anyways, a decade ago I bought the sheet music to this song because I liked it so much, love the pulse and bounce to it. I didn't have the reach for it though, also, this song is not easy to play, it's very advanced. I took my daughter to guitar making school in Canada. I wanted to make a smaller than full size guitar for myself and the school had a form for that but my daughter snagged it.

Perfeito!

mike jones nothing's really hard, it just either takes more or less practice to mimic it the right way on piano to guitar. But the best is doing the song, or any song (classical lol) your way. Not just imitating someone else's song. But making it sound original, making yourself a prodigy. I honestly wish i took piano, instead of guitar... when i was young...
