We started level 1 when my second oldest was halfway through 3rd grade. I was not going to do it with my oldest, 5th grade. We finished up Language lessons for the Well Trained Mind Level 4. However, she started reading the books on her own and sitting with me while I read them to her younger brother.
Level 2: She enjoyed it so and it was like a break compared to what we had been doing. Finished level 1 and did level 2 this year. 4th and 6th grade
Level 3: Started and did 3/4 of it. We got bogged down halfway through Essay Voayge and stopped. That year for writing they did IEW Structure and Style. 5th Grade and 7th grade.
Level 3: We did another IEW SS and finished level 3 this year (Spring 2023) at the end of our school year. (Minus Essay Voyage) they were in 6th and 8th grade. My 8th grader did also complete Level 4 The Grammar of Literature. I plan to review and finish Essay voyage and do level 4 for her Freshman year. We will see if time allows for Level 4: The Writing of Literature. We have a lot planned so not sure at this point.
So much to talk about with all of this curriculum! I may try to do some shorter videos for specific part of MCT. But it is just easier to share it all at once and have less video editing. Thanks for checking out the video, hope you found something helpful for your situation and may God bless you and help you as you educate your children.

I was just wondering if you were planning on doing a MCT Level 4 video. I would definitely be in support of this. You did a great job reviewing Level 3. I feel like I have a much better idea of what's included with this level. Thank you!

Awe!! Thanks. I will try. We have not completed it yet, but I may be able to do a review at the end of this school year! Thanks you asking. It motivates me to do it :D

I heard an interview with MCT once and he said Essay Voyage is designed for teacher to skip many things in the book. Tailor it to give your child what he or she needs.

Wow I loved this review just like your first two. We are just finishing up level one with plans to go over vocabulary and poetry this summer with my upcoming 6th grader. I know it’s for younger children but honestly, I like how because he’s older, he grasped the concepts much faster and easier than a younger child would. We’re so excited to start level 2 next school year! We also will be incorporating IEW for the first time next year as well just to get some more formal writing concepts. I love how MCT has no true schedule so we can use it at our own pace and like you said, if we skip a day or week, we just pick up where we left off and we don’t feel like we’re “behind.” Looking forward to your future reviews. 😊

Thank you for leaving a comment. Makes me so happy. :D So glad you enjoyed it. I do love the flexibility of MCT. I learn so many things from it, too. Glad your son is enjoying it. That was my older child with MCT. She was half way through 5th grade and started reading the books on her own for fun. She loved it and just flew through it. So much easier with an older child. It has worked well for her with level 3 as well, which was a little less interesting for her younger brother. Which IEW are you doing? I'll be curious your thoughts. I go back and forth between Andrew P's ideas and MCTs. I really like Andrew P. I love listening to him and got to meet him! So wonderful. But I do like the less structure of MCT. I'm still experimenting with the ideas. And it is honestly possible MCT is good for my oldest and IEW for my next bc he likes rules.

@@ordinaryhomemaking6027 for IEW, my idea is just to start at the beginning with 1A Structure and Style. I figured that again, even if he’s a tad bit older than intended, the concepts are still the same and he can understand and work through it easier and faster. We’ve never used it before so I’m curious to see how it will work. We use Learning Language Arts Through Literature for our main Language Arts and it’s so fast that I’m not worried about mixing in MCT and IEW. I did notice some hesitation with writing more formally with LLATL so I’m hoping that IEW will clear up that. I learn so much with MCT myself. I swear as a homeschool mom that I didn’t learn or retain anything from my public education. I also have a rising 3rd grade son who has pretty severe dyslexia. We’re finishing level 2 of AAR and he is just grasping reading concepts. We also using LLATL and the two have been a wonderful mix. I plan to add it IEW People and Places in our Community for some formal writing concepts as well. Again, I know it’s intended for K-2nd so my hope is that it will meet him where he’s at academically.

I would love to see the inside of this level. I’m curious how different the vocabulary and grammar is than the first two levels.

Vocabulary is at 23:10 into the video. Grammar (Caesar's English II is very similar to C.E. I) is looked at video mark 26:05.

Also, I see in my notification that you may have commented a question about if you need the grammar teacher's book. I cannot find it on here to reply. And sorry it has been 9 days since you asked. I just had a baby and have not been on here. I believe I recommend teacher and student book for level 3 because they will have pages to do and it makes it easier. Of course with any of them you could potentially get around it if you write out their stuff, type it up and print it, or do it orally. I did do it without the student book, so you can get around it, but know you will have to do a little work. I do think once you get to 4 though you will want the student and teacher book.

Yeah I deleted it because it the girl I bought the teacher manual from just threw in the student guide for free anyway. So it didn’t matter anymore. Thank you!

@@ordinaryhomemaking6027 Caesars English is vocabulary right? Not grammar. MCT Grammar Voyage is grammar.

Hello! Im looking at getting this MCT voyage set for my rising 6th, it will be our first time using. Do you need the teachers manuals for the lit set? My son also struggles to write and I'm planning to do EIW for that portion. I think the videos for IEW will just be too long for him 😅 So was thinking I'd just not get the essay portion for MCT..is that possible, like we wont be missing anything between the set if we do?! Sorry, if that question doesn't make sense. I was also looking at BF history of science, but we are doing NG from adam to us for history and Im thinking we might be biting off more than we can chew with reading 😂

That does sound like a lot of reading. Depending on how independent he is, he could do some of his reading at bed time or free time during the day. That means we miss out on some of the stories though, which sometimes I miss. :D I've heard good things about NG, but not familiar with it. Would love to hear what you all think. So 1) You can totally skip the essay portion from MCT. 2) I do think the teachers book adds to the lit portion, but you can totally do it without. It might honestly be cheaper to buy the homeschool packet and then just sell the essay part. I would check your numbers and see. 3) My 6th grader did the IEW videos we just broke them up into 2 days. But if you do not want him to do it independently, I have heard great things about the nonvideo lessons, like the Narnia writing portion. I prefer MCT grammar to IEWs grammar, but that may just be me. 4) So yeah, sounds like a lot of reading. Not sure if you are open to breaking things up like doing NG for the first half of the year and BF the second. Or doing it all and letting BF take two school years. Or even a 3 month rotation. Lots of flexibility. I do love that with MCT you do not do all of it all year long. Take a month to finish one and move one to another or even do like poetry as Saturday reading or summer reading together.

I will try to do it soon. I like to do most of the level before we review it, but I might do it soon. Definitely before the school year is over for people who want to buy next year's curriculum. Do you typically buy curriculum toward the end of the school year, over the summer, or Jan. I tend to be a NEW Year as in Jan. person. Not sure why. Maybe I'm the only one.

I typically start planning now actually (started in September). I don’t have much time to plan things out in one sitting so I get like 10-20 minutes at a time. (My husband works a lot of hours). So I have to start now for all subjects and kids.

Oh wow that's like as soon as school starts. I typically wait till Jan I guess bc I want to see how this year is going before I buy for next year. That way I see if they need more help in an area or we need to change something, ect. @@sarahmogus9464

Yeah, for some of the things I don’t know about yet, I wait and then focus on the things I do believe we are heading towards. If it changes, then it changes. And it has lol. But I’m also a crazy OCD type A+++++ person (I emphasize the plus since I’m off my rocker 😂).
