Michael D Higgins has been a good friend of mine for many years now and I'm glad he's president of Ireland now. For those of you in America who like him I can tell you that he is a dedicated socialist and in fact it was he who taught me what socialism was. I would love to see him and Bernie Sanders meet each other some day as I think they would get along very well.

Champagne socialists, you might be a friend with Higgins but I am most certainly a direct relative of the late great John Hume, socialism has never once not led to a totalitarian police state where the few own the majority and the majority own the few, "you'll own nothing and be happy.....or else" , you know who taught me that? Uncle John, I have him recorded on the matter, I have many copies and it will be released once the time is right, if I'm here or not.

Crikey the man knows how to write a speech, deliver a speech & build to a terrific crescendo and 'final statement'. This is not something spontaneous, but a well crafted speech in it's writing & rehearsed in it's delivery. Micheal D understands that this is important to 'communicate' the importance of the issue to create a sense of urgency in dealing with the matter that even the opposing side can take on board.

I guess, but at the same time, there are probably 100s of different accents in Ireland. He's far from the only one who speaks like that. Keep in mind, Higgins grew up at a time when that accent and similar accents were popular among the upper classes of Ireland and even the US (listen to William F. Buckley speak).
