Michael Franzese is a former New York mobster and caporegime of the Colombo crime family. He was heavily involved in the gasoline tax rackets in the 1980s, when he was listed by Fortune as one of the most ‘Fifty Most Wealthy and Powerful Mafia Bosses’, and reportedly made more money for a crime family than anyone since Al Capone in Chicago, generating $5 to $8 million a week. He became the main target of Manhattan's federal prosecutor Rudy Giuliani, who later became Mayor of New York. After escaping 5 indictments, he was eventually imprisoned for 10 years, during which he became a devoted Christian. Since then, he has publicly renounced organised crime and co-authored his autobiography, Quitting the Mob. This makes him the only senior official of a major crime dynasty ever who just walked away and survived without protective custody. He is now the founder and chairman of the Breaking Out Foundation, dedicated to educating, empowering and equipping young people to face life’s challenges, especially addiction.

You can see very clearly why Franzese was so successful in that life. He’s a very articulate, intelligent guy. You often here speakers who are ex-criminals or current criminals and they come across as arrogant, thuggish and proud of being feared. I don’t get that vibe at all from Franzese. He seems a decent guy who has turned his life around and gives a brilliant insight into what that life was like and how he can separate himself from it now. A really interesting guy who comes across as very likeable.

I have seen a number of interviews with Michael Franzese but I particularly enjoyed this setting...specifically many of the original questions the students posed as compared to questions that are repetitively asked of him by many interviewers. In any case, I always enjoy listening to his story and the good that he is now doing with his life.

Got to watch your speeches online, thank you so much! Fascinating and inspiring. It's much harder to do the change you did, because you had more work to do, more to adjust to. Like, it's so easy to be righteous when no one offers you the "big chance" to make money. To have all that like you did and to walk away, make the decision, just wow. P.S. Has anyone every told you that you look exactly like Dave Gahan from Depechde Mode? The resemblance is shocking!

Enjoyed the talk from Michael and his take on his present life and his past Life His phylosophy and his faith in God was obviously the turning point. I like his demeanor and it seems even though the US prison system doesn't have a rehabilitation programme put in place~~he pulled through because he found his faith in God. That's a lesson to be learnt.

He's so right about how terrible it is on a moral level (I'm not even talking about the code of the streets and I'm talking about anyone, not necessarily organized crime) to make a conscious decision to do something illegal with someone else knowing the risks. To then get caught and tell on whoever else was involved, throw them under the bus to save there own ass. Unless someone forced that persons involvement, then it's a matter of completely lacking integrity and not acting like a grown ass adult.

Hard not to be attracted to the lifestyle this man is so articulate so well-spoken he's very captivating. I respect a man who speaks his mind and follow the rules there's a lot of rules in that lifestyle that I tried to implement in my life but more so the life that he leaves as a Christian the same for me the life I live by a Christian should we have rules also when these rules are bent things happen in succession. But our number one rule is love and when you break that rule everything falls apart and I see that and hear that in Michael Franzese. God bless you mr. Franzese and all that you have I can see that God has blessed you and you do not seem to glorify the lifestyle of a mob member but it has painted you a certain color they cannot go away other than by the words that come out of your mouth. You still look like a tough guy but I hear sincerity out of your heart you name the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior praise God for that God bless you and all that you have in Jesus name amen

30:00 I think this feeling of hopelessness, which can actually be a blessing in disguise for those who live the corrupt life, could be the moment you realise whatever accumulated wrongs views were driving your existence has only led you towards disaster, and therefore you have no idea how to pull yourself out of the hole you put yourself in. After which point your mind could be cleansed of those wrong views and be ready to the accept the right views of Spiritual Truth which can pull you out of that hole.

Michael Franzese you should write a curriculum for prison redemption and rehabilitation. You have the experience and brains to know from the inside what is needed. Even more important we need a society and educational system that works on the outside to help prevent people from committing crimes in the first place. I live in Bath Beach Brooklyn seen enough of this behavior but never had, wanted, or desired, that life. I think we are all good examples of our family life. Your new life may be 1000 times more productive to make our world a better place by talking about it and discouraging people from that life, I applaud you for that. Now we just need someone like you to talk about the biggest mob of them all, the Bankers and all the politicians they own.
