In fact, young Mozart and his father played the Violin, when Michael Haydn s requiem was performed at the Salzburg cathedral. Remember Mozarts excellent memory abilities! He remembered even Allegris Miserere at St. Peters in Rome and he wrote it down the day after. In my opinion, Mozart uses Haydns Requiem like a scetchbook, whereout he takes some ideas, for he had to go along with composition very fast, because he felt his own death coming soon.

I recommend you to listening Mozart's Requiem in D minor K 626. Mozart took ideas from this and made a great mass. Both are great. Tell me about how you felt after/how much it helped. I did the same too :) He didn't manage to complete it though.

I think this Requiem is MORE appropriate for religious or liturgical ends than Mozart's. Michael: Hi, Wolfie, what about writting somethin' to pray at a burial? Amadeus: Nope, I think an opera about the Last Judgement is cooler. Michael: Yeeah, but what about praying?

Well, the Catholic Church has to ditch the crudity of the Novus Ordo of Vatican II and return to the true Tridentine Latin Mass. You can find these at the churches of the FSSP and SSXP (?) and occasionally at run of the mill Catholic Churches. I understand that the Tridentine Mass is occasionally held at Westminster Cathedral.

thats it Mozart found his inspiation at the music he did discover around him. he had the chance that his father did such great work to educate him and guide him and the concerts in salzburg also were of big influence. Mozart could write down any work he just listened to once. of course this ability allowed him to use parts which he found useful for his compositions.

You need to know a lot more about couterpoint, harmony and fugues before comparing this requiem to THE Requiem, the Requiem of all Requiems, Mozart's Requiem. The date has nothing to do and it's a puny argument. Michel Haydn did a good job....nothing else. On the other hand, Mozart composed the greatest, most impressive and ultimate piece of musical genius. Nothing compares to Mozart's Requiem.

there are darker and greater compositions out there Antonio Vivaldi "Et In Terra Pax" ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpqIgs6CztCtdWQ.html ) ? (Armenian spiritual) ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpeEja6gup61kZc.html )

without all the composers around Mozart he would not have been the genious Mozart. its the hard work his father did and the haydns which prepared the genious Mozart . Mozart did listen a lot to other composers works and was much influenced by these works as he went to concerts to listen and did a copy a work that was not published just by hearing it once. the genious of Mozart results in the fact he was able to analyze directly when hearing a work how it was composed and he could reproduce it. so many phrases Mozart used many structural elements ; orchestration and so on comes fro, such positiv listening and copying to transform these parts into something genious. dont condemn these composers as secondary. they are as important as Mozart as they build a chain oh music history and music society.

What an idiot. I highly doubt you know much at all about counterpoint, harmony and fugues, or the methods of composition a the time. Mozart's Requiem is very similar to this.

both Michael Haydn and Mozart uses G. F. Handel's motifs far more than any other composers'. And Mozart references Handel's Messiah far more than works by any other composer. The opening of Mozart's Requiem references Handel's The ways of Zion do mourn, HWV 264. The dotted rhythm in the bass references Surely, He Hath Borne Our Griefs from Handel's Messiah and the fugal subject of Kyrie references And With His Stripes. To Mozart, Handel was the real hero, not Michael Haydn. All M. Haydn did was writing a very academic, weak work based on the foundations built by Handel.

This is perfectly acceptable and I very much disagree that this is a "weak" work. Handel was well known himself to poach works from earlier composers and rework them, so Handel was far from original himself.

john kim I’m not sure that the motif Handel uses for ‘And with his stripes’ is an original. Haydn uses the exact same notes in the fugal finale of the string quartet Opus 20 No 5, then again in Opus 55 No 1, the former definitely before he had heard any of Handel’s music at Baron van Swieten’s sessions in Vienna in the 1780’s. JS Bach also uses it in the a minor fugue (BWV889), from the ‘48’. Mozart in the Kyrie from Requiem. Probably lots of other examples as well; just an 18th century commonplace motif that appealed to lots of composers.

Niccolo Paganini Uncalled for, unpleasant, and aimed at the wrong person; many people would be interested to check out Anfossi’s theme and then see what Mozart did with it.
