Actor Michael J. Fox is known to millions for the "Back to the Future" films and the TV series "Family Ties" and "Spin City." But for the past two decades it's been his battle with Parkinson's disease, and his search for a cure, that may have generated the most attention. Looking back, he tells anchor Jane Pauley that sharing his battle publicly and joining with others to raise money has been "one of the great gifts of my life." He has launched an online study to help researchers develop new therapies for the disease. (This story was originally broadcast on October 29, 2017.)

@Stephen Anthony Even if he did does he deserve Parkinson's as a result of that?? I had a poor diet which lead to stomach ulcers and then possibly stomach cancer (hasn't been diagnosed yet). Do I deserve to die of that because I made some bad choices?? Seems extremely wrong to me saying people deserve terminal illnesses and early deaths because of lifestyle choices :(

You are so right. I've read Michael's memoir 'Lucky Man' a few times now. Each time I re-read it, it becomes apparent that he really pushed his body to the extreme, for years and years. When you're healthy and young (20's let's say), you feel like you can do anything. But the body has limits, eventually. I think at one point he was working on 3 films at once. Hardly sleeping, not eating well, he used to smoke... this all catches up with you. I'm not a doctor, but in my humble opinion, his 'disease' was correlated to his excessiveness. I'll probably get attacked for saying that. But I sincerely believe our bodies will always communicate to us as a way to regain balance, and sometimes that becomes a 'disease'.

Raul Guajardo actually I wonder how psilocybin could help. Along with a super clean organic vegan diet. You can benefit from psilocybin without the psychedelic effects by adding other natural elements. But Rick Simpson oil may be good. I would like to know more about these so called drugs and there possibilities.

That moment she asked him " Show me what happens when you are still " and he just did it… was truly amazing! You can just tell he is not only fighting it but in control of it. It's just as he says, when you do more things at once brain just fires all these signals and thats what makes it noticeable. Pretty much reason why even during sleep it is the guaranteed moment for Parkinson's not even doing a single tick as part of the brain is not active ( which does affect movement of muscles ) else we wouldn't be able to sleep. What a good guy tho! Wishing them luck on pushing the research further, every step matters!

My mother sold real estate in Vermont in the 1980s. He walked into her office early one Sunday morning to look at farms in the area. He was alone and introduced himself as "Mike". My mother spend half a day driving around with him and looking at available farms. She had no idea who he was until someone else saw him leaving the parking lot of the real estate agency and told her he was a film and tv star. She had figured that he worked on Wall Street since he was young, lived in New York and could afford a get away farm. :) She was also impressed with how unassmuming he was once she found out who he was.
