Watch Michael Jackson performing his number one hit "Billie Jean" live at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the South American Third Leg on October 12, 1993 as part of the Dangerous World Tour to a sold-out attendance of 70,000. AI Remastered and Upscaled with Color Corrections.
After getting many numerous requests recently, I finally completed probably one of my highest anticipated videos in the DWT remastering series. This was rescheduled many times because I had to repeat doing this video for over 3 times due to my editor crashing on multiple occasions while remastering this video. I also had to postpone the upload for a couple of weeks due to other problems such as internet connectivity issues and school requirements. Having this being the only full 1993 show we currently have in Pro footage, I decided to remaster it.
I scavenged for the best source of this concert available on the internet and got some pretty decent sources. I think that the original recording of this concert was only up to 720p in resolution, maybe even lower, so I upscaled the resolution up to 1080p for a better viewing experience. I tried my best to eliminate most of the pixel disruption in the VOB as well. First thoughts after viewing the video is that I noticed there was a lot of smoke on the stage which hindered the viewing experience and also caused a lot of unwanted pixels flying around. I reduced it to the slightest amount that I could and also fixed the over exposed parts of the footage, and also de-saturated some of the parts of the video which were too oversaturated. Overall I tried to color correct most of the lighting, I know by a matter of fact that the original hue of the stage lighting is more of a red-pinkish tint rather than a red-orange one but I had to switch to that to correct the skin color of Michael in most shots. I also tried to correct the warmth of the video by making it seem a bit cooler since I thought the video looked too warm. I also smoothened the rough edges of the video since the original source really had these odd rough edges in most parts. I also adjusted many things such as the contrast, highlights, shadows, tint, brightness, and the sharpness to name a few to get my personally preferred looks.
As for the audio, I also looked for the best quality source I could find separately from the video. I got a pretty HQ source and then enhanced it through Dolby and Audacity. Personally I felt that the video sounded distant, and lacked the overall energy. Because of this I tried to adjust it to make it sound more impactful, and closer to the audience. I also slightly changed the pitch of the audio, giving it a -0.20 pitch in hopes to restore Michael's vocals since I did not really enjoy listening to the oddly high pitch of his vocals in this particular concert. In my opinion it was slightly higher than his average and that is why I reduced the pitch by just a slight tad. Aimed to increase the bass and treble amongst all other things, also gave it a little touch of reverb to the audio and added a slight crystallization effect to increase the audios dynamic range. With this booked in the list, this wraps up my DWT Billie Jean Remastering series. I might consider producing V2 or 2.0 versions in the near future, but for now I will stick with these.
• The Dangerous World Tour
The Dangerous World Tour was the second world concert tour by American singer Michael Jackson to promote his eighth studio album Dangerous. The tour was sponsored by Pepsi-Cola. All profits were donated to various charities including Jackson's own "Heal the World Foundation". The tour ran from June 27, 1992, to November 11, 1993, playing 69 concerts to nearly 4 million people. Originally, the Dangerous World Tour was scheduled to to run until Christmas of 1993. The Dangerous World Tour finally ended on November 11, 1993 after 24 of circa 43 planned dates mainly due to Jackson’s severe ill health and the stress of the accusations made against him.
All concerts were professionally filmed by Nocturne Productions Inc., which filmed all of Jackson's tours and private affairs.
