I think I've stumbled across the original demo for Human Nature, an incredibly rough cut intended to get producers interested. Note the deep bass voice, very uncommon for Michael Jackson (but definitely possible - he had a 4 octave vocal range), Enjoy!

This is the original demo.... everyone saying ''this is shit'' should shut up. This ''shit'' was what MJ fell in love with when he decided to record it into the masterpiece we all came to know and love. Without guys like Steve Porcaro, Tom Bahler, Rod Temperton and many others, we would not have had many of the MJ classics....

Quincy loved the song. This song was pure accident as on the tape was 2 songs intended for Michael. So much of the melody is here on the song. Steve porcaro could have got some co-producing credit on this. But the production is different from Michael's version. The instrumental break has the same melody as Michaels one.

SrananKing your right but this is toto's song human nature steve parcaro and someone else from toto created this song this version is not michael jackson singing it's actually toto the band or musicians from the band but like even pyt was james ingrams song another singer that's soul music toto was more rock but r&b as well but michael got alot of cover songs regardless michael was the best artist singer entertainer I like thin lizzy myself more but michael jackson #1 music regardless good voice probably plays instruments acoustic maybe

Steve Porcaro (from Toto) wrote this song ans sang this demo. Toto didn't like the song that much because they wanted more Rock. So they gave it away but played most of the instruments for MJ'S Human Nature. I bet they regret it now. Steve Lukather even said it himself as far as I remember. I'm a huge Toto fan and I have to say that I'm glad MJ used it. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard and that's mostly because MJ's smooth voice goes very very good with this melody.

if that tape wasnt left accidentley rolling the song would of never came out. toto played on a few songs off thriller album so really they wouldnt of lost out. royalties etc. steve p did compose a great song toto felt at the time it just didnt fit their style of music. you know it was just meant for MJ as he put his own final touches on it he made it a very famous song. MJ the king of pop. Steve P the king of synth's

Toto may have felt REGRETFUL in giving this away - but was GRATEFUL for being the Grammy Kings when they receive not one but SIX Grammys for their own album IV in 1983. The following year, they pass the Grammy throne to MJ.

To the uploader, this is not Michael Jackson. This is Steve Porcaro who wrote this song for his daughter because she was getting bullied and it was on a tape that was heard by accident that Michael Jackson ultimately ended up using for his album. Pitiful, people call themselves fans and can't even identify his voice.

Steve Porcaro is singing here. He wrote the song and recorded this demo on the other side of David Paich's demos that got sent to Quincy Jones. I also believe I heard Steve say in an interview that he didn't think the Toto guys would like this song. Anyway, I really like the lyrics on this version because it tells the story of Steve having to explain to his daughter Heather why some kid was being mean to her at school. Kind of subtle but touching.

The lyric is a throwaway written for Steve's daughter. She was being bullied at school and this was intended for her. He just kept these lyrics in when recorded it. It was accidentally given to Quincy for "Thriller". The intended song was a David Paich tune. After they heard the song and rejected it, they forgot to turn the cassette player off. There was nothing but dead space after it and they were busy. Then, all of a sudden, this song starts to play. Quincy heard it and knew what it could be. Even in this state, it was strong enough to kick "Carousel" off the album.

Quincy Jones was an absolute genius for deciding to have MJ do this song. This is one of those kind of songs you never would see an R&B singer of that time do, but MJ made it work so well and it's definitely one of the key songs that makes Thriller the incredibly special pop album it is. This was actually the last song that made the Thriller album, unseating a song called "Carousel", and I think this emerged as a particularly special song.

oh my god this is incredible and enlightening. interesting how this is in C major and MJ's is in D major. Seems they transposed it up to accomodate MJ's higher pitched voice. Also goes to show how collaborative of a project this track was - the subtle refinements to the lyrics and production by Bettis and Quincy Jones, the famous guitar riffs missing from this demo, and of course MJ's singing contributed to the perfect storm of a track we finally got on Thriller.

Steve Porcaro wrote this song for his daughter. She was being bullied and he wrote this to make her feel better. Quincy heard this by accident when it was on the same tape as another tune he was intended to hear. John Bettis was called in to re-write the lyric and that's how we got the "Human Nature" we hear today.

@MrSilksoul With all due respect, it absolutely *was* an accident according to Steve Porcaro. It was on a cassette with another tune they intended to submit to MJ. Q heard the tune they submitted and passed on it. The tape continued to roll after that song ended and Q ended up hearing this demo - which he decided on for "Thriller" - of course, with re-written lyric by John Bettis. I agree that it is *very* Toto. Great tune!

I would be very surprised if this was Michael Jackson. My first thought was what Quincy Jones was speaking of at the end of the Thriller Deluxe album. This was probably the original demo written at the end of another song written for Michael and Quincy. If I recall, Quincy said the only part he heard was the "Why, Why" section. Good find!
