Not trying to flex, but of the 3 times I saw MJ during the BAD tour, once was from the 2ND ROW on the floor, left of center. For reference, during “Wannabe Startin’ Something,’” the part where he stops the music, and he and the dancers are frozen in place (right before “If you can’t feed your baby!”); HE WAS ABOUT 15 FEET FROM ME. I had previously seen him a few months earlier from much more modest seats. Seeing him perform from that close was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience. What was even better was that the people directly in front of us clearly hadn’t been to many concerts before. When he was through performing “Bad” he said his “Good nights!” and left the stage. The people directly in front of us, and a good portion of the rest of the arena, began to get up and leave the venue! Of course the rest of us knew better and myself and a few others jumped over the now vacated first row seats in front of us and were able to enjoy the encore of “TWYMMF” and “Man in the Mirror” from the front row! I’ll be forever grateful to those clueless people who were probably halfway to the parking lot before they heard the music start back up again! I wear glasses and I distinctly remember raising and lowering my glasses throughout the concert so that I could say to myself that I had seen him with my own eyes, without anything else in the way. Silly maybe, but I just wanted to be able to say I had seen him with my own two eyes. Incidentally, the tickets were $175 per seat back in September of 1988. Even accounting for inflation, they cost a pittance compared to what ticket prices are like today.
