I think it was rejected exactly because of that. it's too much 80s. the Thriller album is way more timeless, it doesnt sound entirely like an 80s album

Whoa---I grew up hearing and loving this Randi Crawford song back in the day, but had no idea MJ had actually covered it first. He could have just released this as a side single like the hit ones he did with McCartney, Mick Jagger and his brother Jermaine back then.

You're right. Alot of the tracks they're putting on the 40th anniversary release surely weren't fit for Thriller. I don't even think Thriller would have done as great as it still does today if those songs were on the initial release.
