My theory on what happened with german is simple . They cards wanted a cheap young pitcher for dylan , cashman offered brito and had brito start the game in order to show him off . But when that predictably backfired they “ the hell with it “ and brought in german to finish the game

I'm glad they didn't trade anyone or make any brash, knee-jerk impulse moves. It's time to bite the bullet and REBUILD, not just try to reload. Once Soto and Bellinger were off the table there was nothing out there that could help us this season anyway. Do what the Astros, Rays, Orioles, Blue Jays and some others have done and what the early 90's Yankees did, take your beatings, be a little patient, get the albatross contracts and deadwood players off your books and then build a sustainable, competitive winner.

The likely reason for it was because they were hoping for a Chad Green Effect. Chad Green was horrendous as a starter, bumped him down to AAA, brought him back up was bad again. They switched it up and put him in relief and he ended up being one of the best pitchers in their bullpen. But with German's 'off the field' issues, he should have been cut and blacklisted from baseball all together. The first instance should have made him disappear. This recent one should cement his fate as an 'untouchable' like Trevor Bauer.
