So appreciate you listening to a song by Michael Kiwanuka. I've been a a since his first album. He is such a gem of a musician and I know at least her in the US he is not well known although this particular song may be by some - it is used as the emotional eerie music for the intro to an acclaimed TV series Big Little Lies. There is also a very touching video for this song featuring the standout actor Lakeith Stanfield - highly recommend watching. Michael is a wonderful songwriter, guitarist and singer

Dear chaps, I have never heard this song before, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Personally, I think that I would prefer the introduction to be the whole song, if that makes sense? Okay, so how "Obscure" can you get? What is the longest, slowest introduction that you have heard? Sadly, there is no prize. For me in 1975, I was 13 years old and my school friend Steve bought an album on Brian Eno's Obscure label (notice the pun?) I borrowed the album and took it home. I put the album on and played: Gavin Bryars - Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1975) At first I thought that the record was not playing. The introduction is so quiet and so slow. I can't remember at what point I started to tear up. In many ways the introduction is the song Anyway, many thanks for introducing me to a good new tune. Always welcome. Can I offer a couple of more suggestions for the list The Residents - "Third Reich" - I first saw this as a short film shown in Austin, Texas in the early 1980s. I also saw The Residents at Birmingham Town Hall where the compare was Penn Jillette. Ornette Coleman - "3 Wishes" - A nice chap in my building keeps trying to get me to look further into free jazz. It has been a hard struggle but I love this song. It really surprised me. None of the above need to be reacted to, but I thought that they might brighten up people's day. Keep up the good work chaps.

@davidrogers3875 I've heard classical musicians call _Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet_ a TFM (short for total masterpiece).

Brilliant Artist. A lot of " Curtis Mayfield " influence there too.

Hi Andrew: I became aware of Michael Kiwanuka some years back when he played the Four Knots Festival in NYC. He had a major buzz on him back then, but other artists and music had more of my interest at the time. You and Jon are spot on about this track: it's exquisitely crafted, enveloping you in the moment. The man's a major talent. Appreciate the Buzzcocks reference at the end.

I really liked the guitar tone on this and the expressive and melodic playing. I hadnt realised Kiwanuka was a guitar player. The style of music isn't much to my taste, but the solo reminded me of Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic's Maggot Brain , which can be no bad thing. The choral vocals were nice too.

Atmospheric number, whose intro made me think of "Standing at the Sky's Edge" (possible review material?), the album on Jon's wall, and even "Blind Willie McTell" (whose name Dylan, typically, mispronounces - it's MACTell not McTELL - listen to "Lay Some Flowers on My Grave", "Lord, Send Me an Angel" and "Statesboro Blues" (and not just for that reason)). There's a glow over old popular music, because the dreck has been largely and mercifully forgotten. "There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind." - Duke Ellington.

Any of his live session recordings are incredible. Try the video version of this too. Love and hate, Rule the World, Light, Beautiful Life (video....warning! It's intense). Try him out, you won't regret!
