@Crazybob078 жыл бұрын
+Lucy Fer Yeah i love Georges Version. George is probably my favourite singer of all time. I wish he would have recorded with his voice in pristine condition. He does a great job but he's slap bang in the middle of a massive tour and sounds a little hoarse at times in it. Still love the version though! MM has very unique octaves so he always own the song.

I never really knew what this song was about as I couldn't properly make out the lyrics. I'd always assumed it was about a man losing a woman through pig-headedness and bullying. Her 'apology' being misinterpreted by the fool when in fact it indicated she'd finally had enough. I got that totally wrong obviously, but loss of something you have is more poignant than something you never really had. I think if anything the enunciation is even worse in this performance, but for all that I love Michael mcDonald's voice - surely one of the most soulful ever.

He came from somewhere back in her long ago The sentimental fool don't see Trying hard to recreate What had yet to be created once in her life She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know He's watching her go But what a fool believes ... he sees the wise man has the power to reason away What seems ... to be Is always better than nothing And nothing at all

90% of the stuff on Jools Holland's show is irrelevant garbage but, just occasionally, he has quality such as this performance by arguably the finest white soul voice ever. Shame he doesn't seek out more of the really decent artists still around in this age of naff digitalised crap. Jools, as a fine musician yourself and the custodian of the ONLY music show on terrestial TV, you have a duty to educate modern audiences about the quality and depth that a pop or rock act is capable of giving us. Have you ever heard Hamilton Loomis? He's the sort I'm talking about.
