Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testified in front of Congress this week to defend his current monetary policy.
While we don't have the results of that testimony as of the time of this recording, Powell has recently stated that he is now seeing the kind of disinflationary path for the US economy that he's wanted to.
This of course has Wall Street salivating again that rate cuts are near at hand.
Are they?
For perspective, we're fortunate today to talk with money manager Michael Pento, president of Pento Portfolio Strategies.
Michael warns that we have the most overvalued stock market ever, and the liquidity that drove it to today's extremes is starting to run out.
In his words "We're running on fumes". And stocks are at risk of correcting 30-80% from here.

Thanks, for all you do! I like your truthful coverage. Mad respect for educating everyone. BTC's price plunged but buying the capitulation isn't a tough call, After all, it is only a very tough call to figure out what to do aside from holding. The good thing about the space is that you can buy the dips and put them into active trades, while confidently waiting for a pump in price because it is inevitable. Most people do not understand how the space works. Your advantage is understanding, Charts won’t guarantee what an asset is going to do. Prices will go up or down. Nevertheless, the market has been so profitable despite..managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3Bitcoin to a decent 19Bitcoin in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Donna Mikalonis, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

Sandraintexas - I hear more and more of these personal experiences - which is why I don't buy that the economy is in good shape. I do wonder if we will have a future where people won't completely retire but move to semi-retirement, like your husband - working maybe 15 or 20 hours a week until they are 75. We are living so much longer. It isn't realistic that people will have a 30 year retirement. It is just too expensive to live.

Most of these guests missed the bottom in October 2 years ago and are pissed and are dying for a crash. I do believe a large correction or an epic crash might come soon. Historically it happens AFTER the fed starts slashing rates. Everything is economic books is thrown out the window. Due to high inflation wealth is being destroyed so people are flocking to assets. At some point the rug pull will happen and the people who bought at the lows are going to take profit.

Everything is now in the market, pension funds, retirements, everyones equity. They can't afford a crash, retirees would br broke, pension funds will be broke, people will be broke. In the old school markets, people had traditional retirements, ss and healthcare from their employer. The market didn't matter to the average joe. Today, everything is in the market, it goes down, everyone goes down. The reality is they don't know how to manage it. So they print to keep everything constantly increasing in value.

I just don’t understand how these arguments stack up. The Fed can print money whenever they want - and do. Sure, there is a bubble in tech, but the real economy beyond this is holding up. Profits are growing, stocks are stable, and no foreseeable event representing a structural failure. Stimulus can can come from money printing if there a decline…. That said, I’m a keen watcher of your channel and appreciate your work!!

Pento has a pretty good track record on market fundamentals, interest rates , bonds, etc. He has been wrong on short term market direction (say 12-24 months). He is right though - eventually we’ll see a major crash. Market exuberance can carry on for a lot longer than people expect. Personally, I am out except for a few stocks I have gains in that continue to climb. Will protect those gains via trailing stops. Cash is earning over 5%. I plan to redirect into commodities as the market rolls over. Current excess income is being redirected to gold - it’s a good way to save.

Great animated chat. Michael is funny! He sure loves a podcast. The 5% restaurant example was really good actually. Those small margins can sometimes be everything. Actually particularly in hospitality which runs on fine margins generally. I cannot say I have noticed empty cafés but I have noticed the cheapest cafe in town being busier than usual. There is definitely a downgrading happening. But at this point it's not stopping people spending. Tourism is still busier than ever. I think I heard it was the busiest day on record in the US not so long ago for flights. Barcelona is also struggling to keep pace with tourism, like so many places now. Also people are taking on pets at record levels - also a luxury expense. So I think the idea that everyone is buckling isn't actually true yet. As others have said people prefer to keep spending and just use credit.

Michael Pento has been calling for a market crash for as long as I can remember. You’re not right if you get your timing wrong. Adam, I enjoy your channel but I think you’d set yourself apart from the competition if you introduced guests by their investment track record vs. major averages. Otherwise, you risk attracting doomsayers. It’s good clickbait but eventually the effect wears off.

the beauty of markets is you make a call and can objectively judge the results. Pento and the majority of guests have empirically been wrong year after year after year. It's great for viewership as people love to doom scroll but it will destroy you financially. Imagine Buffett telling you every year the sky is falling. Use common sense.

Great bromance rapport between Adam and Pento, lol. Fun to listen to. Pento's bearish calls have been way too early but I think his assessments are correct nonetheless.

When will these people honestly admit that they have no idea what they are talking about and can’t predict anything? It’s a huge joke.

I just discovered your channel through this video. Case studies are extremely beneficial and I hope to see more in the future! Creating wealth includes developing habits, such as setting aside money on a regular basis for smart investments.

I really think this guys take on the long end of the treasury curve is very wrong. I like Pento, but I stagflation is not where we’re heading imo, it’s deflation that we’ll have a hard time getting out of. The supply shock is over, and demand is plummeting.
@tarojohn-zg8fd
@tarojohn-zg8fd Ай бұрын
@Dressy7 war is inflationary - our government seems to want...macroecnomic policies of either obama/biden or trump is inflationary; higher tarrifs is inflationary; no more importing deflaton from china; climate bullshit restricting access to baseload energy is inflationary...your comment about demand is of course correct but there are some many other factors that are inflationary...

Measuring in gold Dow was 18 ounces of honest gold money in 1929 and still is in 2017 to 2024. Zero gain in 95 years in honest money.

Noticed the same, but I believe the operative difference is time frame for the various factors discussed to have an effect. The old "lagging factors". Many of the things Michael was most upset about are not an immediate threat.
