Michael Rabin is one of the greatest Violinists of the 20th century. I thank you for posting this recording. I am a Isaac Stern and Heifetz fan but Rabins silk sound and perfectionism can't be beaten. His Mendelssohn is I feel the most beautiful of all recordings on the market . He was just too talented for this world...I guess He was supposed to play "somewhere else" where he'd be more appreciated. RIP

Mériterait d'étre écouté plus souvent.Élève de Jascha Heifetz, mort accidentellement à 35 ans.

Rabin was not Heifetz's student. But he was one of the few who were truely appreciated by Heifetz (called a "real violinist"), at least in Rabin's early years (as a teen). Still, the following anecdote is known: "... Heifetz spoke to Rabin after this concert. While complimenting the young virtuoso, Rabin complained to him about his violin (the Kubelik Guarnerius) set-up not being quite right. Heifetz being Heifetz responded, 'Are you sure its the fiddle?' "

Avrum Golub I’m not an expert, only an amateur violinist, but yes, The video with Stefan playing Scottish Fantasy is absolutely superb....Gives me goosebumps all over my body! I wish he would record it.

Well, although not my favorite interpretation of the piece in regards to the frantic choice of tempo of the ending, which left me so much wanting for the majesty of the piece, Jackiw's playing was really something I wasn't expecting (since I am not familiar with him). Worthy of highest marks in both technical and interpretive respects.

I agree the orchestra is very lame. Michael's playing glorious as always.

nice to have this recording, but it was a bit disappointing. the orchestra is not good, especially the winds, and it sounds as if they didn't have much rehearsal time. the whole thing was kind of disjointed, not cohesive. Michael's studio recording of this is much better.
