Cans last longer however dehydrated and dried packeted healthful goods are a better alternative to cans. I'm not a fan of cans though I do keep them if gifted / given to me. If you procure heavy plastic containers, you can pack them quite full with packeted goods. They'll literally keep indefinitely. I love your apocalyptic approach. It's practical. I have been taught to build a welfare cupboard of one year's worth of food per person in your household. The sign of the times is heading into economic crisis as price of living rises. Maybe you could flatten the cardboard boxes and lay them on the shelf so the jars and cans sit flat? ❤️❤️

My advice would be to lay some ofthat cardboard along the shelves to stabilise your cans and bottles. The packets and boxes might need to be packed into a large plastic storage box just incase there are bugs or mice (I'm sure you don't have any babe) put that box on the bottom shelf.

Cans! Because if you run out of power for a week you can’t cook the beans as easily as the can option 😅

Be careful with stockpiling dry goods unopened or opened. Things like rice, flour, grains, and seeds. You dont want a mouse problem. Those things can chew through anything.
