Fry pop up at a daily basis in my 20 gallon tank. Enjoy a moment of chill with this beautiful and peaceful tetra. Natural breeding setups work great for a lot of species, since that is exactly what they do in the wild. It's not as effective as a dedicated breeding setup, but it's kind of fun checking for new fry emerging from the green jungle. The plants are vallisneria, hornwort and lots of willow moss. Water is rainwater with a small addition of baking soda to add just a bit of hardness. Ph 6 and Dh 2-4. I feed all kinds of live food.
Thanks for watching.

These are great fish! I have 9 in a 75 gallon tank but the 2 angelfish and a gold severum tankmates eliminate the chance of any potential fry. 😮‍💨

beautiful! love the concept of just covering tank floor with moss to provide context where infusoria can thrive, fry can find shelter, and population of tetras like these can multiply. lots of room for new breeding ideas!

Great videography as always! Thanks for showing the fry. You got some amazing shots of these beautiful fish. It looks like some fry still had some yolk sac. I'm going to put some Moss on the bottom now! My wife and I have really come to enjoy the Columbian Tetras, they are one of our top 5 fish. Right now we have a dozen. People who see them are surprised by how relatively large they are.

Thanks a lot Jeff. The fry with orange bellies - looks that way because they have eaten a lot of newly hatched artemia ;0) I agree. Columbian tetras are some cool fish to watch - and they are pretty large as tetras go. I enjoyed your video from your community tank as well :0)

We just bought 3 CT juveniles to introduce to the others for genetic diversity but they're still in quarantine. We plan to move all of them to a bigger tank in a couple of months.

Are these fellas are the types of schooling tetras? Also it is compatible tanked mate for angelfish?
@MichaelJensensAquarium
@MichaelJensensAquarium 2 жыл бұрын
They don't shool tight and constantly like Rummy Nose Tetras - but they swim around peacefully among each other most of the time. The male can be a bit territorial, when they are in breeding mode. I don't think they would harm the angelfish or nip their long feelers. But they are agressive feeders, and that super fast swimming action can stress the angelfish i guess. Check out this feeding video, and you will see what i mean: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7mjqs10r6y4Xas.html Cheers, Michael :0)

Hi I've noticed your columbian tetra have black patches on them mine have this also do you know what it is
@MichaelJensensAquarium
@MichaelJensensAquarium 3 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Yep those black patches come and go. I think they are indicators or mood and maybe a mean of communication among the fish. They change from day to day. I have noticed, that if the start covering the head and gills on a fish, the fish is probably sick. But usually I think it is just some sort of communication. Cheers, Michael :0)

Are these fish still alive? I notice there are black blotches on some of them. 2-3 weeks after these appeared on my colombians they died, and it spread to them 1 by 1. I couldn't find a cure no matter what I treated with.

Hi Hawken. Yes my Columbian Tetras are still alive and breeding. As Constantine wrote, I answered a question on this topic before. Here are my thoughs: Those black patches come and go. I think they are indicators or mood and maybe a mean of communication among the fish. They change from day to day. I have noticed, that if the start covering the head and gills on a fish, the fish is probably sick. But usually I think it is just some sort of communication. So basically I don't think the patches are the cause of fish dead, but just an indication, that your fish dies of something else. But... that is just my theory. Not based on scientific research. Cheers, Michael :0)

Hi, these are large tetras, and full size will be reached in 8 - 10 months in my tanks. They grow to a size of about 5 centimeters, but I think my breeders are a bit larger. They will however get the beautiful colors much earlier. Right now I have a bunch of these fish, that are about 3 months old. I think they are 3 centimeters and colored up nicely. I think they will be able to breed, when they are 4-5 months old, maybe a bit earlier. You can see these youngsters in my video on surface feeding Columbian Tetras. Cheers Michel kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7mjqs10r6y4Xas.html
