I was lucky enough to see him in Shizuoka, Japan of all places in 1975. Loved his song Holidays. What a great musician! I wish his English album had done better. Americans just aren’t very open minded to artists from other countries. Sure, there are exceptions but overall, Americans are very biased toward music that isn’t from the U.S., Canada, or U.K.

Yeah it’s a shame. You should check him out on American Bandstand if you haven’t seen it already

The thing is, you know, no one except people who share the same culture/language can truly understand and therefore appreciate what comes from abroad. I mean you can love a song, a movie, a novel or poem, know the meaning of each word, but you'll never really know what lies beneath the surface, and it's sad really, but normal too because a language is a world in itself. Michel Polnareff is such a quintessentially French artist that I can't even imagine him singing in English or any other language. He has been living in America for many years now, but he has stuck to French to this day. As an illustration to this, I would suggest you listen to the wonderful "Lettre à France", his homesick declaration of love to this country.
