Please consider subscribing, a FULL 2021 ALL SEASON TEST will be live in 2 weeks, placing the new MICHELIN CrossClimate 2 against all its top all season tyre rivals from brands like Continental, Goodyear, Bridgestone and more!
The MICHELIN CrossClimate 2 has finally been launched in Europe, and Tyre Reviews has an exclusive first test of the tyre against the outgoing CrossClimate+ to see how the new tyre improves its performance in the dry, wet, and snow.
The original MICHELIN CrossClimate took the tyre industry by storm as the first summer bias all season tyre (or an all season tyre with winter capabilities) and was exceptional in the dry.
The new CrossClimate 2 aims to improve the wet and snow performance to continue its lead at the top of the all season tests.
Full information on the MICHELIN CrossClimate 2 can be found here: www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Mich...
/ tyre_reviews
While the EU MICHELIN CrossClimate 2 is slightly different when compared to the US version of the CrossClimate 2, they are very similar tyres with similar performances.
In North America this category of tires are called all weather tyres.

Hey All! Now we've had the summer break where no-one cares about tyres, this is the start of silly season, there's lots of videos coming! 😁 Firstly, a bit of housekeeping! I've gotten really behind with comments (sorry) and I'll never catchup, so if there's something tyre released you've asked, and I've not answered, please post it in a new comment on this video (don't reply to this comment as it doesn't show in youtube admin area) and I'll be sure to reply. Secondly, this tyre will be in my all season test, which should be out in a week or two! Thirdly, we have our first winter tyre test, which should be out a few weeks after that. And lastly, please like and subscribe. KZfaqs.

We recently installed a set on our Mercedes c220 and just drove from the UK to Kosovo and back to rescue two dogs. Naturally going through mountainous countries like Montenegro in February we experienced a lot of snow crossing tight, steep, snow covered roads with hundreds of hairpins and deep snow sections. Not once did they falter, they performed as well as a winter tyre could be expected to and even on the tightest, steepest switchbacks they still delivered admirable drive. Honestly, I have no intention of running any other tyre for the foreseeable future as the crossclimate 2 is just so good.

First of all, let's take a moment to appreciate the huge outlay of time and effort that went into making this video. Amazing. Otherwise, I've had the CrossClimate2 on my Impreza for approximately 1.5yr, and they have been outstanding. I live in the Pacific Northwest and drive through lots of rain and sometimes heavy snow in the mountain passes, and I could not be happier. They are the best all-season tire I've ever owned and are holding up very well.

I bought this tire back in Feb 2021 here in the US. It was only available for purchase through Tire Rack and one other outlet for US markets. I specifically purchased the CrossClimate2 XL's for CUV's. Though I just missed the snow season here in the midwest by sheer fate, we've had plenty of very hot weather and lots of rain during the times when that happens here. I've been very happy with the tire on my 2015 Lincoln MKC 2.3L AWD. This is probably one of the best tires I've ever owned in terms of a tire labeled as a M+S with the 3 peak snowflake rating. Personally I've only got about 5k miles on the tires and yet to see how it'll behave in our snowy and icy climate here, but I'm excited to see what I am fairly certain will be the results. It's still taking me time to get used to the grip of this tire in all weather (minus the snow/ice) especially on the AWD platform which I'm only about 18 months into knowing response and handling. I love the tire and hope to see if it meets and/or exceeds its touted 60K mile rating.

I recently replaced my Goodyear eagle LS2 (original tires on my Subaru legacy AWD , worked well though not great in winter and 3 of them started cracking at 40000 miles) with the Michelin CC2. Absolutely thrilled with the performance and warranty of the tires (6 years treadlife and 3 years road issues (flat tire fix, towing) etc). I have 18" 95H tires. Very happy with them. Quiet, smooth and great traction. You get what you pay for. Absolutely worth the difference ($300 more than the eagle LS2 for a set of 4, no way will I get the LS2 again I'm lucky I didn't have a blowout). I have been reading a lot of reviews about reduced gas mileage in the US version but I have not noticed any on the highway so far (my average is still ~ 34-35 miles per gallon). My overall average seems to have reduced by 1 mpg ~ 31 mpg, but I can live with that. Safety first.

Been using a set of CC+ on my winter wheels for my Octavia VRs for a few years. In Scotland the weather is crap a lot of the year but often decent in summer so I run PS4' as they just feel nicer and more direct when the road conditions permit. But winters are never usually bad enough to justify full winter spec tyres so the CC+ seemed a good shout. Unbelievably good in the snow and ice. Had a commute home in the winter up a steep hill lined the whole way up with hopelessly wheelspinning 4x4s all on summer tyres and my 2wd Octy sailed up the road past them. Lot of folk have no clue how to drive in snow but still I'll put a lot of it down to how capable the tyres are. Totally confidence inspiring and haven't had me worried once. Looking forward to trying these when I've eventually worn them out. Good video! 👍

Excellent video, I've been watching this channel for years and I love the detail you go into, your website is an incredibly useful resource for finding tyres that I have used several times. I had a low speed accident driving in the snow several years ago, I slid into a kerb and smashed an alloy wheel that was expensive to replace. That wasn't a fun experience, so I switched to Winter tyres, and found a tyre fitter that would store and swap over my tyres every 6 months or so. When my summer tyres were ready for the bin, I used Winter tyres all year round because I was too skint to buy another set of summer tyres and keep swapping. Winter tyres weren't unusable in the summer, but not ideal. When they wore out I switched to the Continental All Season, they were good, but very much still a Winter focused tyre, then I got another car and bought the original Michelin CrossClimates, these were much better in the Summer, and excellent in the snow and ice. I'll be getting these new Michelin CrossClimates when mine need replacing, thanks again for your videos.

I bought a set of CC + in 2017 when they first came out. This is my 5th winter on the same set of tyres. I use them Nov to April in central european mountains where we have lots of snow. They are good enough to take me sking. We ski around 1600 to 2500 meters in temps -3 to -12c. In winter on a cold but dry day, they feel very good. Not far off a summer tyre in warm conditions and much better than summer tyres on cold dry or wet weather. I live at 800 metres above sea level. After over 30,000 winter only km the cc+ still have 4.5 mm left rear and 5 mm on front. Fuel consumption is very impressive. For comparison I use an old set energy saver plus tyres in summer ( from 2015, 85k and 3.5mm left), if you take out wet days (extra drag) these CC+ are within 2 mpg of my energy saver +. Thats amazing mpg for a tyre with reasonable snow performance. Also note in cold wet November conditions on energy summer tyres i get wheel spin off the front even with 4wd. But with CC+ no wheel spin, it just launches faster so wet grip in cold temps is way more than a summer tyre. My car is E91 320d xdrive tunned to 230hp and 340lbs. 205 55 16s V 91 size. Plenty of power to kick the tail out. Im very tempted to try this CC2 next season. Compared with CC+ if the CC2 has a bit more snow performance that would be very helpful. On dry days

Thanks for the great reviews and followup's to all the posts. I damaged one of my OEM tires and had to purchase new tires ASAP. I decided to try Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires manufactured for the North American market(USA). The CrossClimate 2's do handle better than the OEM's and are much more surefooted on mountain roads. I read other CrossClimate 2 hybrid owners reviews. They were getting lower mpg on the CC2. With my OEM tires I was averaging 40 to 41 miles per gallon in my RAV4 hybrid Limited. Now, I consistently average 34.5 MPG. 15% lower. I even raised the inflation 4 psi over the recommended pressure to see if that would help. EV’s and hybrid’s get a triple hit from higher rolling resistance tires. First when running on gas only, Second from faster battery drain while using battery power only and a third from a loss in regenerative battery charging when coasting or braking. Is there a way to get the Euro spec'd CrossClimate 2 here in North America? As reviewed here, with their lower rolling resistance, they would be perfect for Hybrid and EV owners.

Been looking forward to an update and a proper test on these tyres. I recently got 4 CC+ fitted and got a really good deal on them to the point that even with the fuel saving on CC2, the CC+ deal I got was well worth it. Also, I couldn't find any CC2 at the time at sensible prices, don't know if that has changed yet. Good to hear the snow performance has improved but a bit disappointed on the curved aqua planning results as that was always a major weakness IIRC.

Thank you for the video, Jonathan. It's really great to see you back on the testing track. 😃 The CC2's seem to be a worthy upgrade over the CC+'s. But, for what it seems, the design is not that much different and I expect to see almost the same behaviour on the road, especially on dry and wet roads. The problems I had with the original CC's were not on snowy roads, although that was their Achilles heel, because I am a self conscious driver and on the precautionary side. They tend to be very stiff and noisy on a not so perfect tarmac and they easily transmit these vibrations and noises in the cabin. Also, their lateral grip especially on wet roads feels pretty unsafe. And, lastly, they don't like hot weather. I live on the black sea coast in Romania, and here we have very hot and long summers which puts their toll on the life of these tyres. Not necessarily on wear, but with regards to their performance. I am eagerly waiting for your all season tyres test to see these against Vredestein Quatrac and Pirelli SF2.

@@tyrereviewsI've done 35k miles on 215/50/R17 95W XL Crossclimate+ on a Nissan Leaf and I have to agree with @georgerobert2917 that they are stiff and noisy, in fact I would have to say they have a very harsh uncomfortable ride compared to the original Summer tyres to the point I regretted buying them. The car was originally speced for 91 load rated tyres so I suspect 95 XL is the problem, but the CC+ was not available in this size in a standard 91 load rating. However I've noticed the CC2 is available in 91 non-XL load rating so I am tempted as I liked the other aspects of the tyre other than the harsh ride and that they were a bit noisy. But I'm wary of ending up with another harsh riding tyre... :(

I've been incredibly pleased with the CC+ as my summer tire here in Finland. While I have a set of x-ice north 4 tires for winter use, the CC+'s really help with the unpredictable weather conditions in late autumn / early winter and late winter / early spring. Possibly going to get some CC2's when it's time to replace the CC+'s. I will always *very* strongly prefer studded tires in icy conditions but in regions where such weather conditions are rather infrequent, the CC-line of tires is likely all you'd ever need.

The grooves in these tires collect a ton of small pebbles. I have the older designed ones. BUT I will say it didn't seem to effect the tire at all. In fact I would guess to say that snow performance might be improved with the pebbles in the tread acting as pseudo snow studs. But they are well performing tires. I have FWD and seemed to handle 1 foot of snow with little issue. One caveat is I would rotate them more often if you have FWD/RWD. My front ones are worn noticeably more than the rear set.

Great review as always 👍 Interested to see how these compare to some of the dedicated winter tyres. With so little consistent snowfall in the last couple of winters (in south central Scotland) I wonder if these would be a better replacement than my current Goodyear Ultragrip performance winters (even on colder days)

One other observation I’d like to make: Of the eighteen (18) tires classified as “performance all-season” by Consumer Reports, only one-the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S-had worse rolling resistance ratings than the CrossClimate2. So while it appears that Michelin has certainly made some improvements over the CrossClimate+, if we can believe CR’s testing, the CrossClimate2 is still one of the most thirsty of the lot. It’s too bad, too, because rolling resistance is a metric that matters to me.

It is important to note that US+Canada CrossClimate2 model is different from the one sold in EU - significantly higher rolling resistance for the US-spec CrossClimate 2 - my Camry Hybrid LE shows -10% less mpg vs Firestone FT140. The cost of better grip is non-negligible.

Running Cross Climate+ tires on my wife's Camry for the past three years. Love them! Great in every season! The only thing (and it's minor) is when turning at low speeds they are noisy as heck! Installed 4 new CrossClimate 2's on my 2014 Toyota Venza in June. I am amazed at wet weather performance! Car doesn't pull when entering deeper road puddles and tracks absolutely straight. Noise is not an issue with theses tires. Can't wait to experience winter conditions with these Michelins. Canadian winter conditions can change on a dime around the Great Lakes. The prohibitive costs and inconvenience from changing summer to winter tires on 20 inch rims was the deciding factor in choosing these unique tires. So far I'm very impressed!

I had CrossClimate + (205/60-16) on our Citroën C4 Picasso II and was very satisfied. We live in Denmark where the weather conditions are very reminiscent of the north of England and the coastal areas of Scotland. However, we also drive in the inner parts of Norway where there are proper winter conditions and the tires impressed there as well. The only thing I found negative about the tires was that the noise level increased relatively much as the tires were worn (at least on our car). Our next tires were Nokian Weatherproof and overall I am a little more satisfied with these tires compared to the CrossClimate +. Weatherproof is in my opinion a little more comfortable and a little more precise in the steering - otherwise about the same as CrossClimate +. I look forward to trying CrossClimate 2 when it becomes relevant. Thanks for informative videos and keep up the good work :)

That is to be sayed the main disadvantage with directional tyres in combination with fron wheel drive in general. If you care about that, tyres like the Pirelli or Vredestein with asymetric thread pattern should perform better as you can switch them across the sides. But they do generally not perform as well as asymetric ones. Must say that I was lucky with my A4 B9 in combination with the Conti TS860 as they remained quiet thru theis lifetime. Nevertheless, I'm a string advocate regarding cross-swithing of tyres on a front-wheel car. Maybe this leads to earlier weary-out of tyres (say 5000km), but this method makes them wear-out more equally resulting in less noise.
@Hvitserk67
@Hvitserk67 2 жыл бұрын
@@markusweissenbock6337 Thank you for the answer. I was not aware that the reason for the increased noise from the tires over time is that the tires are directional. This makes absolute sense as the Weatherproof tires are now also starting to make more noise than when they were new (they have now driven approx. 15000 Km). However, they make significantly less noise than the CrossClimate + tires when they were similarly worn. The rear tires are much less worn than the front tires and I consider buying two new Weatherproof tires and fitting these to the back of the car (and of course moving the previous rear tires to the front of the car).

I've fitted these, in the North West England. First time using something that isn't a purely summer tyre (the only slight exception is the Uniroyal Rainsport 3's I once had, which although still a summer tyre, felt genuinely better in the wet). So far they feel on-par grip wise (subjectively) to my previous setup in the dry and wet, but they feel a bit more 'floaty'. I'm guessing this is related to the sipes - it feels a bit weird coming from previously never experiencing winter/all season tyres!
