The Bridgestone Battlax S22’s on my 2021 MT-09SP did not last very long at all. 2850 miles in and the rear has a nasty flat spot. Decided to upgrade to the Michelin Road 6. The Road 6 fits my riding style better as most of my riding is cruising and commuting.

Thanks for the ‘real world’ video. Things don’t always go a smoothly as we hope. A lot of videos probably have mistakes edited out to save face. You did your best, you learned a lot, you taught a lot and you eventually got it done right. Much respect to you for being real. No need to apologize for anything. Thumbs up from me👍

Couple things: 1. Road 6 is a great all round street tire and I'd be running that on a lot of different bikes, especially an ADV bike that was used primarily for road touring and twisty riding. 2. S22 in FL with it's lack of twisty is useless unless you're going to the track regularly. 3. S22 is amazingly more grippy than a road 6 in dry conditions cornering and I don't know where you'd have felt the tire being loose and squirrelly considering it's rated for upper intermediate track riding conditions where a road 6 or sport tourer will surely lose grip + your tires have wide chicken strips on them(it's FL afterall)so haven't even been fully used + a lot of highway pulls will def get an S22 worn out in 3k or less down the middle. In Cali we have endless miles of smooth twisty of all types and nobody on a sport bike or sport naked out here who is riding hard on them complains about the sport tires like riders in flatlands do due to the less mileage. The reason the bike is equipped with the S22 is because it's a performance bike capable of being way leaned over at a high pace where the S22 shines-- it isn't a cheap or crap "stock tire" it's just a different purpose.
@haneymoto
@haneymoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks you for commenting. You are correct in that the S22 is a sport tire instead of the road 6 being more sport touring tire. My issue with the tire getting loose on me was due to the flat spot it developed from my style of riding. the tire had really squared off. Early in the life of the tire I had no issues.
@englishsteel-nz6im
@englishsteel-nz6im Жыл бұрын
@@haneymoto ah, that'll do it-- I see too many bash comments everywhere on the S22 because it's a common stock tire on performance bikes. Great tire, leaps and bounds over older gen sport tires and commonly on rebate to get sets at up to 40% off but useless for touring/commuting/non aggressive riding. Commonly see tho someone purchases a Fireblade and runs out an S22 in 2k miles from blaster highway pulls and dude says "this tire sucks" when it's eh you bought a 200 hp track bike to commute on and twist the throttle hard sometimes lol...

I have a 2019 mt 09. I replaced the stock tires with the same s22s probably 4 times in the first year.. lol. I live in Delaware and it's COMPLETELY flat with minimal twisties... I ride all year and do about 100 miles every day. The s22s were great tires but just didn't last. I ride pretty relaxed but will rip it from time to time. I then went with shinko, angels and now my last 5 sets have been the road 5s and 6s. I personally think the road 6s are best and last the longest. They feel the best while leaning as well. Nothing wrong with the s22s. They just don't last too long. I don't want to change tires every other month

In the spirit of sharing info to make things easier next time for you and anyone else watching this... The lock nuts don't need to be loosened to remove the chain. Once the axle is removed and wheel is dropped to the ground, roll the wheel forward. This will allow for the chain to be removed from the sprocket without having to reset the chain slack when the wheel is re-installed. Also, if you take a broken-down cardboard box and fold it over a few times you can place it under the rear wheel to easily align the wheel hub with the swingarm. This way you don't need to hoist the wheel while simultaneously aligning the wheel and the swingarm when attempting to insert the axle.

Great video. I have a set of Road 6s ready to go on my 21 MT09 SP too. I'm right around 3000 miles on my S22s and they are getting pretty worn. Only thing I would check on is the chain tightness. Looks a little too tight to me but I don't know how it settled once everything was tightened up. I ran a chain tight like that on my old FZ6 and it cost me an engine after it split the case when the suspension compressed on a big dip in the road. Just a heads up!

Side note the Stock S22 that come on the bike are nothing like the Real S22 from shops i am on my 2nd set and there is a noticable difference due to stock ones being less of a grade and normaly less tread front the start

I always used the road 4 and 5 on my r1. I felt no difference compared to the "high peeformance" tires but these would last 3x as long. Can't beat michelin. And at the end of their life they are still round. Really impressive tire.

If you're just riding in straight lines and light twisty stuff def isn't a difference but if you're going hard and getting that bike leaned over there will be a big difference. The S22 tho for FL I would agree have no purpose lol

What do you think was the reason of the bolts seizing up on the front slider? Any way to avoid it? Anti seize grease maybe?
@haneymoto
@haneymoto 10 ай бұрын
It was actually the shaft that ties the two sliders together that got stuck. I think a combination of tight tolerances and a little road debris caused my issue. I have the wheels off the bike at the moment and have freed up the shaft from the front axle. My plan is to sand it a little to reduce the diameter slightly on the end that got stuck and run a little anti-seize in there when I reassemble it. Appreciate you commenting and watching

@@antoniosanchez-qk2vm in south Florida we have a lot of long straight roads. The S22 is a softer tire so the long straight roads and Florida heat chews them up quick
