As a survivor of physical & emotional abuse from a narcissist, my jaw dropped at the last answer. One of the most important red flags I learned in therapy to look out for was anyone who tried to separate you from your family & friends. Your counselor wasn't aware of that, but I am glad you didn't listen and kept the door open with your parents. I'm hoping anyone who happens to read this takes note of that for their future. Abusers have way more power gaslighting you when they are the only option you have to speak to.

Agree! I just came out of a marriage with a narcissistic man and this was a big one! It's also important to notice that they cna be sneaky with it - if you are close with certain people, they may support that relationship as a way to gain your trust and get closer to you and when they feel like you will never leave them, they might only then start to isolate you. So, beware of things changing. Just because your narcissistic partner supported a certain relationship you have with a close one before doesn't mean they truly do in their heart.

Not sure if I said this already but... I am a 30 something year old, mom of three little girls, happily married, black woman and I relate to you SOOOO stinking much! After a day of busyness and chaos, your videos are my "stop and smell the roses!" What if we ALL did just that with people that appear to be so different than ourselves...? Well said about Michel and the world! I'm in my 50's and to watch what the world is becoming is very saddening to me. I pray for all of you younger generations and especially WOMEN! You are a great mother and you do the best you can right now with what you have and I pray that you can totally relax and rejuvenate as you spend time with Michel! Your ex's character is so clear in the fact that he didn't pay you back for the extra 5 months of rent even though HE cheated. What an absolute d bag. I know people can grow up and get better, but that level of selfishness is so absurd.

That's why so many women end up alone after a divorce, for such bad advice from people they trust. Thank you so much Michel for telling your story, it helps tremendously. You opening up can make someone realize that what they're living or the advise they're getting is not good.

I am christiam but i have to say it: there is something really weird about how churches are managed in America. All the things you said gave me chills.. immagine how many women with less suport than you had are making wrong decisions DAILY because of christian counsellors or christian guides that are not really thinking about the well being of the person but just about parrot-repeating rules????

They take one verse out of the Bible and give no room for any exceptions, YES, God hates divorce because it's the death of a marriage but we live in an imperfect world, sometimes there really is no other option, the lady who gave her that advice should have asked more qu and really got to root of the problem, there is no one-size-fits all approach to marriage issues, it's 100% dependant on the situation

You're parents are the most genuine, absolute sweet hearts of all the parents I've been exposed to - I can't believe that church leader advised that. It's crazy that instead of trying to understand their concerns she jumps to cutting them out of your life. That's right, let's isolate a married woman who has concerns with her marriage so all she has is her concerning spouse...

A mental health counselor is not supposed to tell you to stay married or get divorced. They are there to help you be able to process, explore, gain tools, etc. for you to be able to make a decision that you’re confident with and can follow through on. Counselors are helpers not decision makers, the decisions are all for the client to make.

YES on the religious counseling. Because it’s always “honor your mother and father”, toxic and abusive behaviors were brushed aside and the focus was “my problems” spun my wheels and now in non religiously based therapy, we see reality. Gaslighting and brainwashing has passed and it’s just pure truth 🥲 feel you there, luvvy. Go the same route in therapy with Jordy and you’ll find you build authentic trust based on your amazing friendship as a foundation ❤

Catholic here! I cannot relate to my priests or movement leaders because most reject inclusivity and actually see it as a bad thing. Like if I were to have (which I do) LGBTQi+ friends they would see it as sinful behavior on my part because I would be "condoning it".. and how is it that they are the ones that are right when they are so hateful.. it's frustrating

I’m so grateful to you for sharing your Swiftie stuff. I was also cheated on. And there are specific things that immediately take me back. A name. A song. A state. And even now lots of years later I still find myself holding my breath when I hear or see something that reminds me of that. And then I silently reprimand myself for still being affected. But when you said it’s a response to trauma it hit me for the first time that that’s what I’m experiencing. It makes me feel like I should be a lot more loving to myself where that’s concerned. If I had been held hostage and years later something reminded me of that trauma I wouldn’t blame myself for reacting immediately. So why do I blame myself for reacting to this? Thank you for being open. ❤

The start of her relationship with Jordy in the middle ages would be like this: she walks past him and 'accidentally" drops her gloves, he picks them up and approaches her. )))

I am happy for you that you felt comfortable enough to answer the tough questions, Michel. Do what feels right and don't worry about people with petty criticisms. It is too easy for people to hide behind a keyboard and say unkind things.

Oh my goodness thank you for another great Q&A! I was horrified about the bad advice from that lady about cutting ties with your parents but I’m glad you knew not to follow it blindly.

Every time I watch one of your videos where you reflects on life, I really admire how you are able put things into perspective in such beautiful ways, and how you have been able to grow from the things life has put you through. I know that it has taken a lot of effort from you, but I also know that not everyone are able to see, or articulate, things like you do. There was a little thing that pulled extra at my heart this time. That was when you talked about having children. I had my first child at 26, and didn’t have much experience with babysitting or taking care of younger siblings, as my mother was at home when we were small. Most of us are not born “perfect parents”. But don’t worry 😊 As our children grow, our parenting skills grow with them. And the mutual, unconditional love enables both them and us to make mistakes, and the gift of forgiveness ❤ The love between a parent and a child is something very unique. So enjoy the time you have now to the fullest, and know that from the moment you become a mom, you will be a work in progress as a mom for the rest of your life 😉 And know that it is the most beautiful work in progress ever 😊

I'm Christian as well, Catholic. If I would go to marital counciling, I wouldn't be able to go to a priest. My husband has emotionally hurt me, but people don't see him in that way. Our priest would want us to keep our marriage intact. Since I have healed, I no longer feel the need to get everyone to see my side of the story or agree with me. It's such a freeing feeling to truly know, love, and trust myself. 😊💕 I really enjoyed this Q&A video. You're so mature, smart, and down to earth! You and Jordy are so cute together! 😍 Have a great week!☕️🤍✨️🤍✨️

Some of the best advice I got while going through my divorce was from a Priest. I too was abused and lived through infidelity. They also have family members who have experienced divorce, which can help them relate.

Thank you for being you. 😄 Thank you for being conscientious of not only those that follow you, but for those that you encounter IRL. I am far from religious, but I enjoy many different kinds of influencers, and some make their religion too “front and center”. And I totally respect them for their beliefs, but I tend to fast forward when they get too preachy. I can confidently say, I have never fast forwarded any of your posts. You’re my buddy I catch up with after the kids go to bed, and I’m unwinding before going to sleep. Keep on being the awesome you that you are. ✌🏻❤️🌈

I love your thoughts on faith and be loving instead of being right. I've been feeling more and more lately not wanting to go to church because of that reason. It's just put a bad taste in my mouth so struggling on finding a new church.

It is so interesting/frustrating to hear you talk about your experience with divorce and the church. I am a pastor, but I am part of a pretty progressive Christian denomination. I pray that you land in a faith community that is an authentic expression of God’s love for us- broken relationships and all. Thanks for your openness. There are a lot of people in churches that are more interested in controlling them than sharing God’s love with them, and your story might help them see what is true and good and healthy, even if it goes against what they have heard their pastors preach.

I'm so glad to hear you say you're feeling freer about being yourself (funny, goofy, sassy, silly Michel). I can't wait to meet her, she sounds like a lot of fun :) . I got divorced many years ago and one of the things that I didn't really even notice that I had done, was to stop doing the things I really loved that made me happy. I used to write, I was very creative and because my exes weren't into that, I stopped doing it. Luckily, I have amazing friends who encouraged me to go back to it and by doing so, I kind of returned to myself, if that makes sense? I got married a couple of weeks ago and my husband loves doing quite a few of the same things I do, but he also encourages and supports me to do the things that he doesn't do or like, but appreciates them as being a part of my uniqueness. I think we women can be a little bit like chameleons and we can tend to put everyone else's needs first. We have to remember that our passions, enthusiasms and hobbies are as important as our partner's or the opinions of others. So I am love, love, loving seeing you return to things you love, like pottery and feeling safe enough to explore doing new things, like solo trips. I think your relationship with Jordy is so beautiful. It's loving and supportive and you are such a wonderful couple. That is the sign of a healthy, aligned relationship.

I have a hard time with church, as the same thing happened to me as it did to you when I was in my early 20s. I was an abusive relationship and the pastors wife told me that I am to be submissive to my husband. And that I am to cut all people out that are telling me to leave him. I believe in God I believe in the Bible, I don’t believe in church. It is sad to think that there are women out there that do not have the support that I had or that you had. Mama and Papa Janse are amazing people!!! ❤❤❤❤ they also raised a pretty amazing daughter. You go girl!!
