I love that people are becoming aware of mental illnesses and the impact they have on our lives, but I pray it expands beyond accepting just anxiety and depression. There are so many mental illnesses that people still stigmatize. Let's become comfortable understanding them all, not just anxiety and depression.

mental illness is nothing more than unclean spirits. the world is a lie. its in the bible every time Jesus delivered/casted out demons people became well. we need to be in the word & have a care for GOD, then we wouldnt be destroyed for lack of knowledge as the bible says.

Michelle you are so right about getting up in the morning and having that quiet time to yourself to read the Bible and meditate so that you can have the spiritual connection with God. It helps me deal with any personal struggle that come my way. We are dealing with a spiritual warfare, that is attacking our families and our physical and mental health, we must stay prayed up and protect ourselves with the Whole Armor Of God. Love her and her story. YouVersion has been a conduit to my healing this year. I got to such a low point. I was a Christian before, but it was only cause it was what was required of me having been raised in a convent school. I don't think I understood God for who He is until this year. Am just grateful for the YouVersion team for putting together such amazing devotionals, providing access to different versions the Bible, building a community to share it with and also finding public figures (such as Tori Kelly & Michelle Williams) to share their stories of faith. It's reassuring to know that whoever you are, whatever you are going through and whenever it's happening, we are all comforted by the same God. God bless us all.

Listening to Michelle's story. I see alot of myself in what she talked about. I've struggled all my adult life with anxiety, depression and loss. The turning point for me was finding the bible app and God. He's now placed me amongst an amazing group of Christians who uplift me and encourage me. Through his word and love for me I'm turning the corner mentally and finding peace in my heart and a calmness of the mind! I don't doubt that there still will be struggles and difficult days, the difference now is that I know I have Christ fighting my corner and walking with me.....amen

Michelle has come to our Church a few times and I'm glad to have been able to hear her speak ... she's so humble and relatable and you can feel truth in her words. Like one of the worship songs, "I don't need my name in light, I just want to in my Father's Arms ..." He called her name and her story speaks volumes to many around the world, His Light shines through Michelle to bring people out of darkness. Continuing blessings Michelle🙏🙌

I use this app too, i keep it in my phone so i can read it whenever i don't have my paper copy of the bible. It took a while but i eventually bought a paper copy of the bible and got straight into it.😇

I can relate to this. I’ve always experienced these lows, even from childhood. I’m 70 now and still don’t have good coping skills. I also grew up in church and only my hope in God has kept me going. Yet, if I had the trust I should have, I should not feel this way. My family, especially my husband, is running out of patience with me.

I thank God that I just randomly stumbled upon this cause last week or two weeks ago I was so burdened emotionally and nobody noticed..I took a long walk to the beach climbed up a cliff ready to jump then something urged me to look behind and I saw a cute puppy..I smiled and started playing with it ran and I followed away from the cliff.then the owner showed up and as soon as we knew each other he started talking about God and the wonders of the world how grateful we should be of the life we have cause so many times we forget that He is in control,if we trust Him...and that puppy and that guy changed my thinking from what I wanted to do. I read my Bible quite often and it helps me get answers and shine a light on my day to day life.God lives within us. He is always right there with you.trust in him.God bless us all.

I love that she shared her story. It concerns me that she experienced serious depression and suicidal ideation from the ages of 9 through high school, and didn't feel like she was worthy to pray or read the Bible because she had gotten to such a low place. Not wanting to get out of bed for 10 years as a child, possibly due to trauma that she had witnessed (which she mentions), is nothing to be ashamed of and is not a sin or spiritual problem. It means she is human and needed help from adults and probably from the medical community to deal with a serious mental health issue. She is blessed that opening the Bible healed her depression, but it is dangerous to assume that is always going to be the solution. Anyone feeling seriously depressed for over two weeks needs to seek medical attention, just as you would seek a cardiologist if you were having chest pains for two weeks, or would see an eye doctor if your vision was blurry for two weeks. In such situations, it's crucial to find a Christian therapist who can help you navigate what is causing the pain, a good psychiatrist should medication be necessary, and a church that supports mental health education and treatment. Struggling with mental health issues is not a sin. We are blessed to live in a time and place where there is help in multiple formats.

I agree with you. What you say is really important. Struggling with a mental illness is not a sin. I struggle to ask for help because I don't want to bother other people, but depression is getting the best of me and I want to die. So I think it's time to look for professional help again.

Kim Colvin It depends on the root of your depression. If your depression is from a chemical imbalance than yes go to a medical professional for help. But if the depression is a spiritual attack than you need God to deliver you and you need to stay connected to Him. I can relate to Michelle all to well. It wasn’t until God took me through the process of learning to love and value myself. Since childhood I had experience after experience that made me feel unworthy and living unbearable which led to depression. I sought counseling which didn’t help and I was told that maybe i should take meds which I refused because that was not curing me of the depression but would allow me to cope. FOR ME, I had to stop believing the lies of my childhood and fall in love with myself. Again it was a process that God took me through after I was so disappointed that counseling did not help. Each person has to seek out what will help them overcome and stay free of depression.

Don't isolate yourself when you feel like this always pray even if it is help me God. Let someone know, don't be ashamed society teaches us to "be strong" by stuffing our feelings down, but feelings were meant to be felt. It's ok to go through things.

@classyt20f7 God has never left you and never will, no matter what comes your way or what happened in your life. He is there waiting for you to be reattached. We all have sinned and come short of his glory, at some point we all have lost our way at times, but he never left, he is still there beside you. Just open your Bible and start back reading it, his word is still there and it is the same yesterday and forever. As you read remember what you can, memorize anything that touches your soul, and keep it in your heart to use when times get rough, because it will help you along the way for the rest of your life. He is there for you and want turn you away, although at times it seems like he isn't, remember he is, hold on and keep the faith, study his word, because its all we have to fight and stay strong in this life. Pray to him and ask him to forgive you for everything that you've done, in his son Jesus name, tell him how you feel, give all your problems and worries to him, and he will show up, he's always on time, when you least expect it, even when it seems like its no hope left. You still have a chance just by looking at this video and responding, and admitting you need help, the first thing to do is admit, ask for forgiveness, and then read his word, and he will comfort you and welcome you back. Don't give up, for God is with and us all that believe in him, till the end of time. I will be praying for you, and us all.

@classyt20f7 God can heal all of that, and make you new again, just pray and get your Bible, sleep with it if u have to, keep it close to you, the devil hates it, God will protect you so keep calling on him, he will deliver you from any sin, no one is perfect but the father, so he knows what all you have done, you can beat this, but you have to believe it, many of us that has been through things and have over come had to believe God is real, and we had to have faith and ask God to teach us, it wasn't easy but if you don't give up, even when it seems impossible, you will over come all of this, and be a testimony for others that have gone through things, and that are still going through. God will give you peace and will fight all of your battles, all you have to do is give it to him. God is real, trust in him, he's the only one who knows how to get you out of the torture.

@@MsRita2014 It can be hard to understand. I'm the same way a lot of the time. The YouVersion app gives one verse a day and that's usually what I read

Mitchelle, I am so proud of you for knowing that it is the place to be, in the word of God, at every turn in life. I did not know you until I saw your brief but interesting show on television. As I watched you, I saw the true person that you are and that is who you presented to us all. You were just yourself and that is very important, to be who you are. I found you real, unpretentious, and a good hearted person. You are beautiful. After your show went off, tonight is the first I have heard anything else about you, by seeing where you are in your life in this article. Thank you for seeking the true path to eternal life. You are looking well. Just know that there are those of us who love you, support you and I shall lift you up in prayer and ask that Jesus continues to cover you in his sainted, precious blood.
